Islamabad, May 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): A Spokesman of the Prime Minister’s House has clarified the reports carried by a section of print and electronic media regarding postings and transfers by the caretaker government.

The Spokesman regretted that a wrong, malicious and misleading impression was created which was unwarranted and needs to be eschewed.

The Spokesman said that all postings and transfers have been done after due diligence, examination and deliberations in consultation with Establishment Division on the basis of reports and summaries from ministries concerned highlighting and underscoring need for change of incumbents either for inefficiency, incompetence or on grounds of unsuitability etc.

The Spokesman said that no new appointments have been done against much harped removal of MDs, CEOs of OGDCL, SNGPL, SSGPL, USC, PTA and EOBI besides others. Acting charge has been given to the next senior most in such organization till the new government appoints new persons after due process.

The Spokesman further clarified that the office of Chairman NHA has been assigned to Dr. Sajjad Baloch previously serving as Director General, Gwadar Development Authority now appointed Member NHA, a professionally sound officer holding PhD degree from USA in Civil Engineering/Highways. Major consideration being acceleration of work on fast track on Gwadar-Rato Dero Road.

The Spokesman said as regards mis-statement on account of Prime Minister’s son’s transfer to NHA, suffice is to state that he is a qualified civil engineer in C and W Balochistan since 1988, now in BS-18 since 2009. ڈاکٹر سو کے وکیل کے مطابق 3 دسمبر 2012ء کو نوبل اسمبلی کے خلاف ڈاکٹر سو کی جانب سے مقدمہ دائر کیا گیا تھا جس میں عضویات اور طب میں 2012ء نوبل انعام دینے کے حوالے سے چند بیانات کی وضاحت طلب کی گئی تھی۔ بدقسمتی سے اس حوالے سے کوئی جواب موصول نہیں ہوا اور مقدمہ ابھی تک زیر التواء ہے۔ البتہ ڈاکٹر سو نے ڈاکٹر یاماناکا کے خلاف مبینہ دھوکہ دہی پر براہ راست ایک اور مقدمہ کر دیا ہے۔

ڈاکٹر سو کے وکیل نے کہا کہ ڈاکٹر یاماناکا کی مصنوعی بین الجینیاتی خلیہ تحقیق کے تحت “جسمانی خلیات کی اسٹیم سیلز میں شمولیت” کے عنوان سے شایع کردہ بیانات ہیں جو ڈاکٹر سو کی پیٹنٹ یافتہ ٹیکنالوجی تھی، اور اس نے ان کی ساکھ اور ادارے کو بھاری نقصان پہنچایا۔ ڈاکٹر سو دعویٰ کرتے ہیں کہ ڈاکٹر یاماناکا نے حیاتی سائنس پر جستجو اور تحقیق میں کئی اچھی ساکھ رکھنے والے ماہرین کو دھوکہ دیا ہے۔ البتہ ڈاکٹر سو سمجھتے ہیں کہ ڈاکٹر یاماناکا نے ان ماہرین کو غلط راستے پر ڈال دیا۔ مثال کے طور پر ڈاکٹر مانتے ہیں کہ ڈاکٹر یاماناکا کے پروپیگنڈے کی زد میں امریکی حکومت تک آ گئی جب 2008ء کے اسٹیٹ آف دی یونین خطا ب میں جلدی خلیات دوبارہ تیار کرنے کے ایک طریقے کی حمایت کا حوالہ دیا گیا جیسا کہ ایمبریونک اسٹیم سیلز، ڈاکٹر یاماناکا کے دعوے کے مطابق۔ ڈاکٹر سو مانتے ہیں کہ لاکھوں ٹیکس دینے والوں کا پیسہ ایسی غلط سائنس کے لیے سرمایہ کاری میں ضایع کیا گیا۔

نوبل اسمبلی نے 2012ء میں ڈاکٹر یاماناکا کو عضویات یا طب میں انعام سے نوازا، اور ان کی مصنوعی بین الجینیاتی خلیات کی انسانی تجدیدی صلاحیتوں کو تسلیم کیا۔ انسانی زندگی کو مستقبل میں ممکنہ خطرات کو مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے ڈاکٹر سو قانونی راستے سے ایسی دھوکہ دہی کوروکنے کے لیے کام کر رہےہیں۔

ڈاکٹر یاماناکا اونکوجین منتقلی کے ذریعے بنائے جانے والے مصنوعی خلیہ کو “پلیوری پوٹنٹ اسٹیم سیلز میں جسمانی خلیات کی شمولیت ” کا نام دیا، یعنی کہ انہوں نے انہوں نے پلین ٹف کی پیٹنٹ شدہ ٹیکنالوجی کے نام پر مصنوعی بین الجینیاتی خلیہ کی تحقیق کا دعویٰ کیا اور اسے مختصراً iPSC کا نام دیا، جسے فوری طور پر قبول کیا گیا اور معروف سائنسدانوں کے گروہ نے اس کی پیروی کی تاکہ وہ ایمبریونک اسٹیم سیل تحقیق کے اخلاقی پہلو کو حل کریں۔

ڈاکٹر یاماناکا کی جانب سے استعمال کی گئی اصطلاح ڈاکٹر سو کے پیٹنٹس کا مغز ہے، جس میں یو ایس پیٹنٹ 6991813 شامل ہے اور ڈاکٹر سو الزا لگاتے ہیں کہ ڈاکٹر یاماناکام کی تحقیق دراصل اسٹیم سیل کے ساتھ کچھ نہیں کرتی۔ ڈاکٹر یاماناکا نے سیل اسٹیم سیل میگزین میں 2012ء میں شایع ہونے والے ایک مضمون میں تسلیم کیا تھا کہ وہ جسمانی سیل شمولیت کے ذریعے قدرتی پلیوری پوٹنٹ اسٹیم سیلز حاصل نہیں کرتے۔ ڈاکٹر سو کے مطابق یہ مضحکہ خیز سائنسی دھوکہ آخر کیوں گزشتہ چند سالوں سے دنیا بھر میں غالب ہے۔

انسانی جسمانی خلیہ کی پلیوری پوٹنٹ اسٹیم سیل میں شمولیت ڈاکٹر سو کے پیٹنٹ یافتہ “خراب اعضاء کی دوبارہ تخلیق” کا بنیادی جز ہے اور طبی ایپلی کیشن میں اسے کامیابی ملی ہے۔ البتہ یہ ٹیکنالوجی جو “خراب اعضاء کی دوبارہ تخلیق” کی اجازت دیتی ہے عوام تک پہنچنے میں ڈاکٹر یاماناکا کی سائنسی دھوکہ دہی رکاوٹ ہے، اور لاکھوں افراد کو علاج کے لیے جدید سائنس و ٹیکنالوجی تک پہنچنے کے امکانات کا خاتمہ کر رہی ہے۔

According to Dr. Xu’s attorney, a previous lawsuit was filed by Dr. Xu against the Nobel Assembly on December 3, 2012, urging the Assembly to clarify certain statements made in conjunction with awarding the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Unfortunately, no response clarifying the truth about the science has been received as the case is still pending. Therefore, Dr. Xu has filed another lawsuit directly against Dr. Yamanaka, for alleged deceptive practices employed by Dr. Yamanaka.

Dr. Xu’s attorney stated that Dr. Yamanaka’s published statements labeling his artificially transgenic cell study as “induction of somatic cells into stem cells”, which was the patented technology of Dr. Xu, has caused substantial damages to his reputation and company. Dr. Xu claims that Dr. Yamanaka has deceived a number of well-intentioned professionals into exploration and research on the life science forefront. However, Dr. Xu believes that Dr. Yamanaka has steered these professionals down the wrong path. For example, Dr. Xu believes that even the US government was misled into Dr. Yamanaka’s hype when the 2008 state of the union address mentioned favoring a way to reprogram adult skin cells to act like embryonic stem cells, as claimed by Dr. Yamanaka. Dr. Xu believes hundreds of millions in taxpayers’ money has been wasted in funding such false science.

The Nobel Assembly granted Dr. Yamanaka the Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2012, acclaiming his artificially transgenic cells created human regenerative potential. Considering the foreseeable consequences threatening human lives, Dr. Xu is working to stop such deception through the legal process.

Dr. Yamanaka labeled his artificial cell produced by oncogene transferring as “somatic cell induction into pluripotent stem cells”, i.e. he claimed his artificially transgenic cell study in the name of the plaintiff’s patented technology and called it iPSC in short, which was quickly endorsed and followed by a group of prestigious scientists expecting to solve the ethic issue of embryonic stem cell study.

This term used by Dr. Yamanaka is the core of Dr. Xu’s patents, including US Patent 6991813 and Dr. Xu alleges that Dr. Yamanaka’s study actually has nothing to do with stem cell. Dr. Yamanaka admitted in his article published in Cell Stem Cell magazine in 2012 that he didn’t obtain natural pluripotent stem cells by somatic cell induction. According to Dr. Xu, it is critical to ask why such a ridiculous scientific scam has been prevailing worldwide for the past few years.

Human somatic cell induction into pluripotent stem cell is the core content of the Dr. Xu’s patented scientific route of “regeneration of damaged organs” and has been accomplished in clinical application. However, this technology that allows “regeneration of damaged organs” has been hindered from benefiting the general public due to the scientific scam by Dr. Yamanaka, depriving the chances of tens of thousands of patients for getting access to innovative science and technology for cures.

The scientific route of “developing drugs to regenerate damaged organs” has been labeled one of the nation’s main topics of focus, and was also discussed by president Obama in his 2013 State of the Union Address, where he stated “Now, if we want to make the best products, we also have to invest in the best ideas. Karachi, May 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (R) Zahid Kurban Alavi has directed the concerned departments for marking advance preparations / measures to face any eventuality in better way during forth coming monsoon season. This he said while presiding a high level meeting of Irrigation, department, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), relief department and other concerned departments held at C.M House on Tuesday.

He said that with advance preparations and precautionary measures we could cope with any situation in better way. He stressed for better coordination among the irrigation, PDMA, Relief Commissioner and other concerned departments.

In this connection Caretaker C.M Sindh constituted a committee under the chair of chief secretary Sindh and principal secretary to C.M Sindh will be vice chairman while members will include provincial secretaries of irrigation, Finance, Senior Member Board of Revenue SMBOR and Director General PDMA.

The Committee will be responsible for monitoring the process, administrative steps and coordination of all the relevant departments so that all affairs could be run in an effective and smooth manner. C.M Sindh said that irrigation and agriculture were important sectors and these need special focus as economy of our country depends on agriculture. He said that to face any disaster or eventuality Disaster Management Authorities at district level are already established.

“There is need to activate and strengthen these authorities for advance preparedness so that urgent response could be generated to face any disaster” C.M Sindh stressed. C.M Sindh added that through advance preparations not only disasters could be faced in effective manner but expenditure could be minimized. He directed the irrigation offices to further strengthen the river embankments with special focus on vulnerable points.

Caretaker provincial minister for irrigation Mr. Shuja Junejo said that people residing near and surrounding the river Indus embankments will have to extend cooperation with the administration. Minister emphasized the need to remove the illegal encroachments and constructions from the embankments.Secretary irrigation Mr. Babar Effendi while briefing the meeting said that irrigation department has taken various initiatives for strengthening the river embankments.

He added that presently out of 76 ongoing schemes of construction and repair most were on verge of completion, while remaining schemes will be completed by June 30,2013. DG PDMA in his briefing informed that Sindh province suffered huge losses in last 3 consecutive years due to floods and heavy rains.

He said that PDMA with its limited resources provided relief and rehabilitation services to the affected people. He apprised the C.M Sindh about the problems and constraints faced by PDMA. Relief commissioner informed the meeting that his department has already prepared a “Monsoon Contingency Plan 2013” and this plan was being provided to all provincial departments, deputy commissions and other relevant officers. He added that in last 3 years’ floods and heavy rains relief department played an effective role for relief and rehabilitation of affected people.

The meeting was attended among others by irrigation minister Shuja Junejo, secretary finance Sohail Rajput, secretary irrigation Babar Effendi, Secretary Zakat and Usher, Rehabilitation DG PDMA.

Srinagar, May 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): In the wake of the fatal attack on the Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah, at Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu, the Amnesty International has called upon India to take prompt steps to enhance security for Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails.

Shashikumar Velath, Programmes Director of Amnesty International India, in a statement also urged the authorities to ensure that those involved in the 3rd May attack were promptly prosecuted.

“Authorities need to ensure that those found responsible for the attack, including anyone who may have facilitated it, are promptly prosecuted,” Velath said.

“Indian authorities should take immediate steps to protect Pakistani prisoners in various jails of India and ensure that such attacks do not recur,” he added.

Sanaullah was attacked with a sharp weapon by an ex-Indian army man at Kot Bhalwal jail and sustained severe head injuries. He is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chandigarh, 300km from Jammu.

Lahore, May 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA) has assigned a preliminary rating of ‘A’ (Single A) to the proposed, retail, listed, secured TFC issues of (1) PKR 3,000mln (including a green shoe option of PKR500mln) and (2) PKR1,000mln by Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL).

The rating denotes low expectation of credit risk emanating from a strong capacity for timely payment of financial commitments. The rating recognizes the originator’s – Pakistan Refinery Limited – sound financial profile emanating from low leveraged capital structure and healthy cash flows. Cognizant of the prevailing inter-corporate debt in the energy chain, PRL has effectively managed its exposure by favourably using commercial credit from domestic E and P companies.

The rating draws its strength from underlying structure of the debt instruments, whereby, inter-alia, 1) the requisite funds to ensure timely redemption would be gradually retained/ built-up over a period of six months prior to the payment date and 2) PRL has strong fortnightly cash flows cycle, which along with the un-utilized portion of existing running finance lines provides cushion against exercise of put option.

The rating is dependent on the continued compliance with the defined structure of the instruments. Moreover, any significant deterioration in the performance of PRL owing to volatility in international oil prices and/or changes in existing regulatory framework, adversely impacting its refining margins, in turn cash flow stream would negatively impact the rating.

Srinagar, May, 04 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Kashmiri leader, Syed Ali Gilani has termed the attack on a Pakistani prisoner in Kot Bhalwal Jail, as painful and highly condemnable incident.

Syed Ali Gilani talking to media men in Srinagar said, “This is painful and highly condemnable incident. A strong action should be taken against the prisoner who is involved in the incident. This is pre-planned attack.”

The veteran leader demanded shifting of Kashmiri and Pakistani prisoners to Srinagar as they were facing serious life threats from communal and biased Indian jailed authorities. He said that the Kot Bhalwal jail incident had again brought into focus the threat to Kashmiri and Pakistani prisoners from communal forces and biased jail authorities outside the Kashmir Valley.

He pointed out that the purpose of sending Kashmiri prisoners to outside Valley was to continue their mental torture and a number of them had been attacked in the jails outside the Valley. “What is the fun of sending these Kashmiri prisoners to outside? They can send them to Srinagar and other sub-jails of Valley. They are sending them outside with a deliberate plan to attack them in jails,” he added.

Syed Ali Gilani also said that the Pakistani prisoners should be sent to their country since most of them had already completed the jail term.

On the other hand, member of the so-called Kashmir Assembly, Engineer Abdul Rasheed, in a statement termed the attack on Pakistani prisoner as a cowardly and inhuman act. He said that the incident seemed to be an organized and revenge, patronized on the directions of Indian Home Ministry.

Srinagar, May, 04 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Kashmiri leader, Syed Ali Gilani has termed the assault on a Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah, in Kot Bhalwal Jail, as painful and highly condemnable act.

Syed Ali Gilani addressing a press conference at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar, today, said that attack on Sanaullah was a pre-planed conspiracy and not merely the act of an individual. He pointed out that the assault was carried out on the instigation of the authorities through the jail Superintendent, Rajni Sehgal, who had a terrible track record of cruel attitude towards the inmates.

The veteran leader underlined that attacks on Sanaullah as well as Indian spy, Sarbajeet Singh, were the consequence of the political murder of Muhammad Afzal Guru. He said that these incidents had raised concern about the safety of the Pakistani prisoners in India and the Indian detainees in Pakistan. He demanded the shifting of Pakistani and Kashmiri detainees to the Kashmir Valley as they faced threats to their lives in outside jails.

The attack on Pakistani prisoner in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, yesterday, has similarly been condemned by all Hurriyet leaders including the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Yasmeen Raja, Zafar Akbar Butt, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Firdous Ahmed Shah and the spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman Shari Shian. They demanded an impartial probe into the incident.

On the other hand, people took to the streets in Sopore town and staged demonstrations against the attack on Sanaullah. Indian police personnel used brute fore to disperse the protesters.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chaired a meeting of his party, Awami Action Committee in Srinagar, today. The meeting finalized the arrangement for the programmes regarding the upcoming Martyrdom Week.

The Week is being observed later this month to pay homage to prominent martyred liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, besides the martyrs of Hawal on their martyrdom anniversary on May 21.

London-based Kashmiri journalist, Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor, addressing a function organized at the Kashmir University in Srinagar in connection with the World Press Freedom Day, said that Indian national media had always been biased and inconsiderate towards occupied Kashmir.

Karachi, May, 03 2013 (PPI-OT): President Asif Ali Zardari today decorated Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Liu Jian with the award of Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam during a special investiture ceremony held at Bilawal House today.

The President conferred the award on Mr. Liu Jian in recognition of his pivotal role in further cementing and expanding the already existing strategic friendship between Pakistan and China and for his untiring efforts to enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields.

The investiture ceremony was attended among others by Chief Minister Sindh, Justice (Retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi, Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar, foreign secretary Mr. Jalil Abbas Jillani, ministers, members of diplomatic community, senior officials of Chinese embassy and other senior officials.

The citation read on the occasion said that that Mr. Liu Jian has played a pivotal role in furthering, strengthening and expanding the strategic friendship between Pakistan and China during his three years tenure of duty in Pakistan and that the Ambassador devoted his energies to forge ties in the field of Defence, strategic relations, culture, sports, people-to-people contacts. Gwadar Port Project, which is a hall mark of Pak-China Strategic Partnership, was handed over to Chinese Company during the Ambassador’s tenure, the citation said.

Mr. Liu Jian being a great friend of Pakistan would be remembered for his commitment to strengthen the bilateral relations in diversified fields, the citation adds.

“In recognition of his meritorious services to the cause of strengthening Pak-China relations, the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to confer the award of Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam on Mr. Liu Jian, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan.”

Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the President while congratulating the Chinese ambassador on the conferment of the award of Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam, appreciated the invaluable contributions made by him during his three years tenure as ambassador in Pakistan to further strengthen the time tested friendship between Pakistan and China and brining the two countries further closer.

The President said that the high level visits and frequent interaction between the leadership of the two countries were a testimony of Liu Jian’s untiring efforts to further enhance the close and brotherly ties between our two countries.

Lauding the role of Chinese ambassador for more investment in Pakistan, the President said that Mr. Liu Jian was instrumental in fetching Chinese investment in various sectors including infrastructure, energy, communications and agriculture, which, the President said are closely related to people’s livelihood.

The President said that the people and Government of Pakistan highly valued fraternal relations with China demonstrated by the fact that the government and people of China have always stood by us in times of distress. He said that the two countries will always stand together under all circumstances.

The President said that Pakistan was proud of its time tested and all weather friendship with China and expressed satisfaction over the current level of bilateral trade that reached $12.4 billion in 2012 with three times increase in Pakistan’s exports to China since 2008 reaching $3.14 billion in 2012.

The President appreciated China’s economic support and assistance to the socio- economic development of Pakistan and said that Pakistan desires to promote closer collaboration in agriculture, irrigation, security, energy, railways and infrastructure development.

The President urged the need for investing in the Pak- China friendship by enhancing interaction between the people of two countries.

Islamabad, May, 03 2013 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Justice (R) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has said that Pakistan is blessed with huge resources and it is upto us to exploit its potential for the progress and welfare of the people of the country.

The Prime Minister made these observations during a presentation given by the Ministry of Finance on the state of economy and the preparation of budget for the next financial year at the PM’s House this morning.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance to allocate substantial funds for agriculture, energy, health and education sectors in the next budget and come up with recommendations to broaden the tax base.

The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Finance to further streamline the procedure for remittances so that overseas Pakistanis can send money back home conveniently. This, he said would also lead to increase in the amount of remittances which is presently estimated to reach 14 billion dollars.

The Prime Minister was told that due to good performance shown by agriculture sector in the past few years, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has remained in the single digit.

The Prime Minister directed more emphasis on agriculture sector because it has the potential of addressing the issue of unemployment as well as increasing rate of economic growth of the country.

Srinagar, May, 03 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, APHC leader and the Chairman of Islamic Political Party Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash has appealed to the United Nations and the world community to play role in redeeming the right to self-determination to the Kashmiris. Muhammad Yousuf Naqash in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Kashmiri people had been struggling for the Kashmir cause for the past several decades and they would take it to its logical conclusion.

He also welcomed the government of Pakistan’s decision of returning the body of Sarbjeet Singh to India. Naqash further said that it was very unfortunate that Indian people were not protesting when Kashmiri prisoners were assaulted and subjected to murderous attacks in Indian jails as if Kashmiris were not human beings.

He said that the Kashmiri people were also demanding the mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru and those should be given to them the way Pakistan handed over the body of Sarbajeet Singh.

Karachi, May 02, 2013 (PPI-OT): Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (Rtd) Zahid Kurban Alavi has said that forthcoming general elections will be held on May 11th at any cost while provincial interim government will ensure fair, free and transparent elections.

He added that objective of convening All-parties conference (APC) was to consult them and taking the political parties on board. He said that nearly all political parties in conference demanded the deployment of Army for peaceful and fair conduct of general elections.

He said that Army will remain on standby and whenever necessary army will be deployed on sensitive polling stations “Army will be available as rapid response force” CM Sindh added. CM Sindh said this while talking to German Media delegation at CM House on Thursday.

The Minister said after the financial crisis, self employment is gaining strength the world over but self-employment comes through skill development and technical education. Srinagar, April 30, 2013 (PPI-OT): Indian authorities denied passport to the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, preventing him from participating in a two-day world religious conference in Tehran. The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had been invited by the General Secretary of the organising body World Assembly of Islamic Awakening, Dr Ali Akbar Villayati to participate in the Conference organized in the Iranian capital on April 29-30. However, he said, the APHC Chairman was denied passport and other travel documents.

Noted Islamic personalities, erudite, heads of Islamic parties and religious teachers have been invited to attend the conference.

Almost all the representatives of NGOs attending the consultative workshop on “Working with Media on Human Rights” organized by Pakistan Press Foundation here told that militants consider them lucrative, as they believe that NGOs are heavily funded by international organizations. Quoting certain incidents of kidnapping of NGO officials in Balochistan, the participants informed that ransom demanded by kidnappers, ranges up to twenty million Pakistani rupees.

The NGO people also receive threats from tribesmen. In such a situation, the organizations have restricted their work. “For example, we do not spread our work to more than one village and keep on working silently in a village so that we are not exposed to other people,” Ahmed Nawaz, CEO, National Capacity Building Program, told.

He said, ”We avoid releasing news to the media and instead prefer to post it on website, Twitter and other social media so that the kidnappers and militants do not know about our activities.”

The situation deteriorated since 2008 when the NGO officials were kidnapped for ransom or killed for non-payment of ransom. The threats to NGO people are now order of the day.

The participants also had complaints against media persons. They contended that newspapers and TV channels do not support NGOs working for human rights. They leveled serious allegations of corruption against the journalists. Some of the participants told that journalists used to cover their events in the past but now they avoid it as the journalists too receive threats from militants. A representative from Loralai area told that journalists have stopped covering NGO activities after receiving threats.

Some participants informed that whenever they issue any press release, the newspapers publish it after some days and for that also the journalists expect payments by NGOs. The newspapers demand advertisements from NGOs and do not respond otherwise.

During the discussion the participants however agreed that there exists wide gap between the NGOs and the print and electronic media because of lack of coordination.

Some of the participants informed that their organizations purchased airtime of local FM radios for creating awareness among the masses.

During the panel discussion Mr. Raza-ur-Rehman, resident editor, Urdu Daily Express and Bureau Chief, Express TV, who is also the current president of Quetta Press Club, presented the viewpoint of journalists saying that they too were performing duty under stress. “Like NGOs, the journalists too are receiving threats of dire consequences. We are asked by militants and tribal heads not to publish any news against them. Life threats are also extended in case we do not publish their statements,” he said.

He agreed that some journalists could be involved in unethical practices however said that the attitude of newspapers and TV channels was in the process of change, although slowly.

Raza-ur-Rehman advised the NGO people to come closer to the media and offered his help in this regard.

Mr. Javed Akhtar, Bureau Chief Pakistan Press International (PPI) also expressed similar views and offered NGOs to keep in touch with them for releasing their news on work being done by them in the field of human rights.

It also came to the fore that the newspapers are not allowed to be delivered in the interior of Balochistan while the news channels too have been closed in different areas.

During the interaction with participants it transpired that none of the NGO had any Public Relations section or Media Cell to deal with newspapers and electronic media. Any of the officials of NGO is assigned to come into contact with media when needed. The participants were explained how they can setup a proper section for the purpose. They however urged to conduct further workshops in this regard, as despite holding master’s degrees in different subjects they were lacking such knowledge and training.

In view of security concerns, the participants suggested holding security trainings for the persons working in NGO sector. They said the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw was totally different from Sindh and Punjab and should be addressed differently.

The participants welcomed the PPF move of inviting senior journalists to the workshop and termed it ‘ice-breaking’ and urged to arrange more sessions with journalists for closer cooperation in highlighting the work being done in the fields of different human rights. Currently different organizations are working on street children, gender equality, rescue and relief in disaster-hit areas, education, health, child labor and many other issues.

Karachi, April 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): The trade and industry has widely condemned the recent wave of terror and bomb blasts in the city. The Patron In-Chief Korangi Association of Trade and industry (KATI) S M Muneer, Chairman Mohammad Zubair Chhaya and Vice Chairmen Najmul Arfeen and Niaz Ahmed said in statement that frequent incidents of bomb blasts and attacks on political parties’ camps and election offices and trying to sabotage election process in the city.

They said that apart from paralyzing the city life while the trade and industry suffers the most due to closure of business and massive loss of production and industrial wheel comes to a halt. They asked caretaker government to wake up from deep slumber and take stringent measures to maintain law and order and apprehend the saboteurs of Karachi’s peace. They have also appealed to the political parties not to further penalize the residents of Karachi by resorting to give strike calls and paralyze the entire city.

They said that there is no resilience being shown either by political parties or religious factions and are adamant to resort to strikes and ‘dharnas’ in the city not only disturbing the lives of the peaceful citizens but compelling the trade and industry and market to shut down.

They further showed their dismay over the loss of precious time of the young generation due to frequent closure of schools and colleges in the city. They particularly mentioned the pathetic attitude by the government and law enforcing agencies towards continuous target killing and extortions. “For god’s sake all the political parties and religious factions should get united to face and fight the enemies whose illegal activities are taking toll on Karachi’s peaceful life and crippling its economy,” said Chhaya.

Srinagar, April 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and senior APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, have welcomed the statement of senior Congress leader and former Indian Minister, Mani Shanker Aiyar, where he stated that people in Kashmir have a feeling that they are being ruled by Indian police and army.

The APHC Chairman in a media interview in Srinagar said that Congress had been in power in India for most of the time but unfortunately their policies had remained anti-Kashmir. “They are hoodwinking and keeping people in India in dark about the realities in Kashmir,“ he said, adding that Aiyar should convey his feelings to people in power in India.

“They (Indian rulers) are more interested in safeguarding their interests than keeping human values and rights in mind while dealing with Kashmiris,” he said while expressing surprise over Aiyar’s assertion about need for continuation of draconian law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the territory. “It only speaks about his double speak. If on one hand he has concern for Kashmiris and their feelings, how come he advocates AFSPA in the same breath,” the Mirwaiz added.

Senior APHC leader and the President of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, in an interview said, the statement of Aiyar makes it clear that Kashmir is being ruled by police and army.

“He has also endorsed the fact that police killed youth and young children during 2008-2010 uprising which should be an eye-opener for all as Aiyar himself is part of Congress that has been in power during the period,” Shabbir Shah added.

Karachi, April 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): Dr. Cyrill Nunn Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany visited the English Speaking Union of Pakistan (ESUP) on 24th April, 2013. About a hundred members had gathered to hear his address on the subject of the development of Pakistan and German Relationship. The President ESUP Mr. Aziz Memon welcomed him and the other guests warmly.

In his welcome speech, referring to the developed world’s concern for containing and eradicating terrorism, he pointed out that poverty is the root cause of lack of education and of unemployment, the two evils that give birth to lawlessness and extremism. He emphasised that the solution lay in economic growth, and said that Germany, as one of the biggest trading partners of Pakistan and a member of EU, could help by enhancing trade with Pakistan.

The Ambassador covered the subject of Pakistan- German Relations comprehensively. Agreeing with the ESUP President, he said that Pakistanis would have to work hard to increase trade. The German government was not involved in business and trade.

The German private sector is driven by the prospects of earning speedy profitable returns from their enterprises. Though Karachi gives a kick start to economic activities, it is Punjab with its quick decisions and rapid follow up that has been very successful with contacting small German investors and completing several projects in a short time. Later answering a question he said German companies were interested in small hydal power projects and had accomplished some in Punjab already. There is scope for more.

Germany has moved fast in supporting Pakistan in the last decade including the education sector. Increasing from almost none, Germany today is offering five hundred scholarships in the area of higher education in collaboration with HEC.

In Pakistan German language is being taught in many schools of Punjab cities and some in Karachi. Germany has also opened doors to Pakistanis, and a community of 4,500 individuals are now living there as a non-conflicting peaceful minority building bridges of communication and understanding. from Afghanistan.

He asserted that Pakistan, like Germany and France known as traditional enemies did, should resolve its differences with India by staring with baby steps resolving minor disputes and finally moving to the bigger issues to bring peace and prosperity to the region.

EU, he said, would continue to have a common currency, a common interest in development, highest trade volume, porous borders and respect for the cultures of member states. The Sr. Vice President ESUP and former High Commissioner to UK, Mr. Abdul Kader Jaffer presented the vote of thanks. A plaque as a memento of the occasion was presented to the Ambassador.

The event was moderated by the Secretary General, Mr. Majyd Aziz, who introduced Samar Ikram of St Patrick’s High School, Karachi, who stood Runner Up in ESUP annual National Public Speaking Competition (NPSC) held in March 2013 in Karachi. She will be representing Pakistan at the ESU International Public Speaking Competition, (IPSC) 2013 in May, along with the Winner of NPSC from Islamabad. Islamabad, April 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Dr. Younis Soomro chaired the meeting of Estate Office, here today.

Falak Sher, the Estate Officer, briefed the meeting about different functions performed by the Estate Office. He briefed the Minister that during the survey of government housing units in Islamabad as per Supreme Court directions, 592 houses had been identified which were occupied by unauthorized occupants. He said that out of 202 police trespassers; 60 had been vacated till now.

The Estate Officer brought it to the Minister’s notice the shortage of the ejectment team as there are only four policemen on Estate Office panel, hired from Islamabad police. While briefing about the lodges’ status, the meeting was apprised that these are temporary accommodations but are being allotted permanently which creates a space for unauthorized residents.

The Minister directed the Estate officials to ensure all information is computerized indicating the status of accommodation. He directed the Estate Officials to implement the orders of Supreme Court in letter and spirit and all unauthorized occupants and sublet houses as indicated in Honourable Supreme Court judgment must be vacated.

He also directed that locked houses shown in the report be reverified to identify the status of occupants. It was further decided that all commercial places under the Ministry would be auctioned through wide publicity. He also directed to rectify the situation as the federal lodges are touring lodge.

The Federal Minister also expressed concern over the long general waiting lists and instructed the Estate Officer to get the illegally occupied housing units vacated as soon as possible so that we could accommodate the deserving ones.

The Summit, focused on the power of vaccines, is being held during World Immunization Week (April 24-30) to continue the momentum of the Decade of Vaccines — a vision and commitment to reach all people with the vaccines they need. Ending polio is a critical milestone in this vision.

Islamabad, April 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): Two days SAARC-PTB 2nd Coordination Conference on Regional cooperation in Metrology begins in Islamabad today. Delegates from all the SAARC member states are participating in the conference.

While addressing the inaugural ceremony, the caretaker Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Sania Nishtar lauded the initiative taken by Germany based Precision Technical Board (PTB) for coordination among the SAARC countries regarding all kinds of metrological organizations and cooperation with metrology institutes all over the world.

The minister said, ’’Unfortunately, the region which we belong to, has never paid heed to this requirement and failed to allocate adequate resources. Hardly any country has ever reserved more than 1% of its GDP for Science or Education.

It is time for us to learn that the brainy resources have much bigger might than the physical resources and we simply have to learn the art of tapping and using these resources. It is time to accept co-existence, join hands, cooperate and learn from each other’s experiences’’. She said regional cooperation is order of the day and SAARC is the appropriate forum for regional countries to redress various issues with joint efforts.

The new developments in metrology on national and regional level will also be under consideration. We will also identify, and define set milestone for the 2nd phase of the project activities to be implemented during the 2013-2014.

Srinagar, April 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that India that is occupying Jammu and Kashmir by the dint of force is plundering the natural resources of the territory.

Syed Ali Gilani, who is under house arrest in Srinagar, talking to a delegation of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir from Islamabad town said that New Delhi had resorted to dirty means to hold its illegal occupation over Jammu and Kashmir.

The veteran leader said that so-called elections had never been alternative to the right to self-determination, and India was all set to stage another election drama in the territory to sabotage the liberation movement.

He said that Urdu, a conspiracy was being hatched to replace Urdu, which was the official language of the territory, by English and Hindi to distance the Kashmiris from their religious heritage including tafaseer and Urdu literature.

Meanwhile, the Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir in a statement expressed concern over deteriorating health of the detained party detained leader, Bashir Ahmad Qureshi. He was arrested on January 29 and was subjected to severe torture in different jails of the occupied territory. The party demanded his immediate release.

A Village Defense Committee (VDC) member Kewal Krishan,(30), killed his sister-in-law Nishu Devi and then ended his own life by shooting himself with his 303 rifle at Ladyar in Panchari in Udhampur.

On the other hand, two Indian troopers were injured in a mine blast at Googaldar in Kupwara and another trooper of Rajputana Rifles was injured as his gun went off in Mendhar.

Meanwhile, four persons were killed and dozens others were injured in separate road accidents in Srinagar, Kulgam, Banihal and Jammu areas.

Srinagar, April 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference leader and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM), Ghulam Ahmad Mir has denounced the invoking of draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), against APHC leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan.Ghulam Ahmad Mir, chairing a meeting of his party in Jammu, said that the freedom sentiment of Hurriyet leaders could not be weakened through such tactics. He said that Kashmir was an internationally recognised dispute and the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, had promised to the Kashmiri people that they would be given their inalienable right to self-determination.

Ghulam Ahmed Mir urged the Indian rulers and the occupation authorities to allow the Hurriyet leaders to continue their political activities. He said that this would pave way for resolution of the long-pending Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations. The APHC leader demanded immediate release of all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists.

“The candidates used to visit their constituencies and conduct electioneering through corner meetings and door to door contacts but contrary to this traditional practice, the politicians are contesting polls through media,” writer, poet, intellectual and former MPA of 1970s Tabish Alvari said. The workshop was organized by Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF).

“The fifty percent electioneering is based on media campaign,” he noted remarking that media in Pakistan needed to be cautious as it is not mature yet. “The media should avoid being misused by the politicians.

He also stressed on devising a code of ethics for the journalists as well as the owners of media houses and called for strictly observing it.

Tabish Alvari also deplored the poor working conditions of journalists especially in rural areas.

Professor Dr. Rasheed Qazi, Head, Department of Social Work, Islamia University, Bahawalpur, opined that most of the media reports were not based on facts. “The media publishes/broadcasts reports without verifying the facts, which is against the ethics. It must play the role with full sense of responsibility.

According to him, the media in Pakistan was neither free nor neutral as different lobbies prevail over it.

Earlier, Professor Dr. Javed Chandio, an intellectual, author of many books, former journalist and Head, Department of Siraiki Language, Islamia University, Bahawalpur, in his address said that electronic media in Pakistan was a 10-year child and needed to be guided for playing a responsible role for betterment of society. “About a dozen anchors of TV channels are spreading poison in the society. This is against the norms of freedom of media,” he viewed and urged for Code of Ethics for media persons as well as the owners of media houses.

During the 3-day workshop, attended by print, radio and TV professionals, it was observed that the majority of voters were unaware of their rights and most of them, especially the women in rural areas, even were not aware if they were registered as voters. “The people used to cast votes under the personal influence of politicians or being influenced by the Community,” the participants told.

“No politician or candidate talks of human rights or resolving the issues faced by the poor. They even do not implement the party manifesto,” they noted.

The participants that also included six local females working for radio and TV channels said centuries’ old system still prevails in Bahawalpur Division with the result that always same faces are elected in the elections.

Pointing out the low turnout during the polling, the participants said around sixty five percent people do not cast votes. “This silent majority can bring a positive change if they are motivated to use the right of vote.

It further transpired during the discussion that the newspapers have no reach to vast area of Cholistan Desert and other rural areas of Bahawalpur. Even the TV channels are not viewed in remote areas due to non-availability of electricity. “Owing to this the awareness programs telecast by TV and the Election Commission’s drive in this regard have left no effects. Only the radio has outreach and could be used for creating awareness among the people in Cholistan Desert and other rural areas.

The participants also analyzed the contents of half a dozen newspapers during which it was noted that political news dominated the pages. Most of the news reports were based on statements of politicians. It was followed by crime reports while there were few reports on health and education and zero report regarding human rights.

They also highlighted the pressures including political one on the rural journalists.

The participants represented Geo TV, Rohi TV, Din TV, News One, Aaj TV, Metro News, Daily Pakistan, Jang, Awaz FM 105 radio and others.

Karachi, April 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): SSGC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) on April 1, 2013 in order to ensure complete transparency in its procurement processes. The MoU will facilitate the gas utility in availing TIP’s expertise as an observer by adopting best practices while following the rules of the Government. The MoU was inked by TIP’s Chairman Sohail Muzaffar and SSGC’s Managing Director Zuhair Siddiqui. The signing ceremony was held at the gas company’s Head Office in Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, MD, SSGC said that the gas utility shares a common vision with TIP of a corruption-free Pakistan and reiterated the Company’s commitment to address its observations promptly. The signing of this MoU will make SSGC even more conscious and mindful about maintaining transparency in all aspects of procurement processes, the MD said.

He observed that it has been seen that sweeping staff take Katchra from roads and keep in streets of various localities, and this tendency will not be allowed.

He said that transitional arrangements period may be allowed for 15-days so that day to day affairs of Local Government bodies are solved, while officers could be declared as administrators to run the working.

He further directed that Local Government department has to play important positive role, as such the transition system be completed within 15-days and no further extension of period will be allowed.

Caretaker Chief Minister further said that in case, the process is not implemented within 15-days , a fresh case with recommendations be submitted before him. Earlier, Secretary Local Government, Secretary Finance, Commissioner Karachi/Administrator KMC and Secretary Law presented issues pertaining to local Government system.

Addressing the seminar, Mr. ZafarBakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed that in this age of intense competition, customer care was vital to any business to keep clients satisfied and convert them into loyal and long-term customers.

He said business was a dignified profession as it was the profession of Prophets who earned great respect and dignity by dealing with customers with honesty and truth. He said to maintain the dignity of this profession, it was essential that businessmen should always follow the principle of honesty and integrity while dealing with their customers and never keep them in dark about the quality and standard of products.

This way they would achieve better rewards in this world as well as in the Hereafter. Instead of focusing on profiteering, they should earn reasonable profit which was the best approach to keep customers satisfied and ensure sustainable growth in business.

Lahore, March 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) has termed the amnesty scheme for car smugglers and tax evaders as an anti-industry step and any such permission would detrimental to the local industry.

In a statement issued here, the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javaid urged the Chairman Federal Board of Revenue to discourage any such decision as the smugglers of vehicles would get encouragement and would continue their criminal activities if a legal cover is given to smuggled vehicles.

The PIAF Chairman said that the business community understands that the smuggling is eating up much of the revenue therefore stringent measures should be taken against people found involved in such ant-social activities.

He said that smugglers of vehicles are the main beneficiaries of this proposed amnesty scheme, as luxury cars are being cleared by paying nominal fee under these schemes, and damaging the local auto sector, which provides direct/indirect employment to over 2.5 million persons. In the past, similar tax amnesty schemes have also been abused by tax evaders to launder their untaxed money through state patronage and, under all such amnesty schemes so far, government has failed to collect even a fraction of the black money.

Malik Tahir Javaid said that the local auto industry contributes over Rs 80 billion to the government treasury every year therefore foolproof strategy should be adopted to safeguard this one of the largest revenue generation sectors instead of eyeing a very small amount through the Amnesty Scheme.

He said that government only allows import of three-year-old used cars, but through this amnesty scheme, cars smuggled into Pakistan which are much older than three years can be legalised. How the FBR can ignore a serious crime like smuggling, he asked.

The PIAF Chairman said that an acute shortage of gas and electricity had already caused considerable damage to the trade and industry and if policies like Amnesty scheme to smuggled cars were given legal cover, no government would be able to put economy back on rails. Therefore, the PIAF Chief said, it would be wiser on the part of the government to take stakeholders into confidence before finalizing any such plans.

Lahore, March 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA) has maintained the long-term and short-term entity ratings of National Power Construction Corporation (Private) Limited (NPCC) at “A” (Single A) and “A1″ (A One), respectively. These ratings denote a low expectation of credit risk while the capacity for timely payment of financial commitments is considered strong.

The ratings reflect ownership of the corporation by the Government of Pakistan. The ratings draw significant comfort from strong track record of the key management team – mostly associated with NPCC since inception – to manage its business risk arising from contract based nature of its operations in Saudi Arabia.

The strength of the corporation’s management in terms of their technical expertise, business know-how and resourcefulness are key rating factors. Despite zero debt capital structure, relatively lower quantum of available funds restrains the company’s business and financial profile.

Geneva, March 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): The London-based Islamic Human Rights Commission in association with the International Chamber for Peace and Conciliation hosted a seminar titled “Administration of justice in conflict areas”. The panellists included Dr Elvira Dominiquez-Redondo, a human rights expert, Middlesex University, Dr Krishna Ahooja Patel, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Mrs Shamim Shawl, International Muslim Women’s Union, Mrs Susan Wells, tribal judge, Altaf Hussain Wani, APHC-AJK, Mrs Saadani Malainine, International OCAPROCE, Ambassador Ronald Barnes, Indigenous Peoples and Nations’ Coalition, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, the Chairman of International Council for Human Rights-Kashmir Project and Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, the Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London. Farah from IHRC moderated the event.

Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo observed that after 9/11 accountability process in the execution of justice was gravely affected. As far as Afzal Guru’s hanging was concerned, he referred to a number of incongruities. He also referred to some critical issues like mass graves, no judicial process has been set in motion. Parliament of European Union passed an urgency resolution in this regard.

Dr Elvira with reference to various conflict situations particularly Kashmir demanded the establishment of Truth and Reconciliation Commission. She presented the legalistic vie about administration of justice.

Mrs Shamim Shawl stressed the need to ensure the rule of law in conflict areas. She raised a number of questions with regard to miscarriage and murder of justice in the case of Afzal Guru. She pointed out that even after hanging, Afzal continues to remain detained as the body has not been handed over to his relatives. All norms of justice have been trampled in this case, she remarked.

Dr Krishna Ahooja Patel pleaded for social political and economic justice in conflict areas.

Altaf Wani referred to lawless laws which are selectively used to defeat the process of justice.

Ambassador Ronald Barnes pleaded for self-determination of the oppressed nation and supported the struggle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir by calling it just.

Srinagar, March 14, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities imposed curfew and other strict restrictions in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley, today, to prevent protests against the killing of a civilian, Altaf Ahmed Wani by Indian paramilitary forces, yesterday. Additional forces were deployed across the Valley and all major roads were closed by erecting barricades to restrict the people’s movement.

Hurriyet leaders and organisations including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Zafar Akbar Butt, Yasmeen Raja, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Abdul Ahad Para, Democratic Freedom Party and Peoples Freedom League condemned the cold-blooded killing of the Kashmiri youth.

The General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement, a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirza Zafar Khursheed addressing different party meetings in Poonch condemned the continued illegal detention of Hurriyet leaders and activists.

Meanwhile, another civilian was hit and killed by an Indian paramilitary forces’ vehicle at Solina in Srinagar.

In Geneva, speakers at a seminar said that human rights violations in occupied Kashmir were on the rise due to blanket impunity that the Indian troops enjoyed under draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

The seminar, which was organized by Islamic Human Rights Commission of the United Kingdom on the side lines of the 22nd session of United Nations Human Rights Council was addressed among others by Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, Susan Rice and Krishna Ahooja Patel.

Karachi, March 13, 2013 (PPI-OT): The market has been described as lacklustre. Ginners are unwilling to break their asking rates and mills in need of supply have therefore had to pay up, the range being still between Rs. 6,700 and Rs. 7,000 per maund (roughly 83.50/87.25 US cents per Ib), ex-gin. (Since March 1 domestic prices for better grades have advanced by some Rs. 300 per maund).

Average quality cotton has attracted around Rs. 5,900 to Rs. 6,500 per maund. Sales of imported cotton today have included 200 tonnes of US SJV Pima 2-2-46 from the 2013/14 crop at 154.00 US cents per Ib, and 200 tonnes of Brazilian SLM, 1-3/32′, at 92.50 cents, CFR Karachi.

According to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, raw cotton export registrations from August 1 to February 28 totalled 415,656 bales (including 21,229 bales of 2011/12 crop), and shipments totalled 306,967 (65,201).

Buenos Aires, March 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Embassy of Pakistan (Commercial Section), Buenos Aires, Argentina organized “Pakistan-Argentina Trade Show” in Buenos Aires in the House of Mendoza from 4th to 8th March 2013 in collaboration with the Mendoza province who provided a forum for Pakistani exporters to display their products and interact with potential importers and exporters.

The 5 days Trade Show was inaugurated on 4th March, 2013 by Director House of Mendoza and Commercial Counsellor Buenos Aires. After the inauguration speech by the Director House of Mendoza, the Commercial Counsellor gave a detailed presentation of Pakistani exports to the participants. A video film “vibrant Pakistan” was also played during the inauguration which was highly appreciated by the participants.

The Pakistan-Argentina Trade Festival was participated by all the leading importers of Pakistani products in Argentina.
