President hails Prime Minister Gilani for remaining steadfast

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday paid rich tributes to Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani for remaining steadfast and said he stood by him. You would not find Yusuf Raza Gilani stumble at any stage, the President said while addressing a huge gathering here at the mausoleum of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on her fourth death anniversary.

President Zardari said though protocol wise, Gilani reported to him, but in fact, the Prime Minister was the leader of all. He said all forces were under the Parliament and said he always listened to the Prime Minister because he represented the federation and was a representative of the people through the Parliament.

President vows to fight for democracy: says only real democracy can deliver

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday vowed to fight for democracy and said only real democracy can deliver and not the tailor-made democracies .We will fight for democracy as we do not fight for seats,€ President Zardari said while addressing a huge gathering here at the mausoleum of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on her fourth death anniversary.

The President said only real democracy could deliver and pointed that attempts were being made to introduce tailor-made democracies and added that those who were now jumping fences do not have any significant achievements to their credit. Is this to derail real democracy, or an attempt to bring in some dictator, he asked.

Ambassadors-designate present credentials to President

Islamabad: Ambassadors designate of France, Iran and Sweden, and the ambassadors designate of Venezuela, Georgia and Belarus, resident in Iran, today presented their credential to President Asif Ali Zardari at an impressive ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The ambassadors called on the President separately and presented their credentials. In their separate meetings they discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.

The President felicitated the newly appointed ambassadors to Pakistan and expressed the hope that they will work for further strengthening the existing ties of their respective countries with Pakistan.

Earlier, upon arrival of Mr. Philippe Thiebaud, Ambassador designate of France, Mr. Alireza Haghighian, Ambassador designate of Iran, Mr. Lars Hjalmar Wide, Ambassador designate of Sweden, Mr. David Velasquez Caraballo, Ambassador designate of Venezuela, Mr. Giorgi Janjgava, Ambassador designate of Georgia and Mr. Victor Rybak Ambassador designate of Belarus, at the Presidency the National Anthems of Pakistan and their respective countries were played and the envoys were presented Guard of Honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army.

President stresses boosting economic conditions

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday stressed the need for efforts to boost economic conditions and to address the challenges of gas and power shortage in the country.

He was talking to Federal Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masood was also present during the meeting.

President Zardari said the improvements in economic indicators were encouraging, however, efforts needed to continue to keep up the pace and momentum of economic turn-around. He said the prevailing international economic situation was not very encouraging and called for efforts to further stabilize the national economy to fight economic challenges.

Turkish President phones President Zardari

Islamabad: President Abdullah Gul of Turkey telephoned President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday afternoon. Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that President Gul inquired about the health of President Zardari and conveyed well wishes of the government and people of Turkey. President Zardari thanked his Turkish counterpart for his gesture.

President to be discharged from hospital Thursday

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari will be discharged from his hospital in Dubai and shifted to his home, his doctor said Wednesday. According to his physician Dr Khaldoun Taha MD FACC who has been treating the President at the American Hospital in Dubai all medical investigations carried out were within the normal range. The President would be discharged on December 15 to rest at home as advised, and would continue his heart medications, his spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said.
