197 criminals arrested; valuables worth Rs. 1,97,81000 recovered during 1st 15 days of April

Islamabad, April 19, 2015 (PPI-OT): In continuous efforts by Islamabad Police to curb criminal activities, a total of 197 criminals have been arrested during 1st 15 days of April besides recovery of valuables worth Rs. *Rs. 1,97,81000*, huge cache of contraband and weapons from their possession.

According to details, Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan directed Islamabad Police to ensure elaborate measures for protection to the lives and property of the citizens. Following his directions, (IGP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan reviewed strategy of high vigilance in the city and enhanced patrolling measures and strict checking at entry as well as exit points. Coordination with community members was enhanced to get information about criminal elements residing in various localities.

Owing this strategy of high vigilance in the city, Islamabad Police got remarkable success during 15 days and nabbed 197 criminals. As many as 48 criminals were arrested for having narcotics or illegal weapons and police recovered 46.900 kilogram hashish, 119 wine bottles, 31 pistols,4 Kalashnikovs, 5 guns and 154 rounds from them.

Police apprehended 9 persons for their alleged involvement in snatching and tempering cars and recovered 17 snatched as well as tempered vehicles and 5 motorbikes from their possession. In addition, police nabbed 85 alleged dacoits and thieves besides recovering gold ornaments, mobile phones, laptops, cash and other valuables from them.

One person was arrested for his involvement in blind murder case while 13 proclaimed offenders and 20 court absconders were apprehended. Islamabad police took prompt action against alm-seekers and arrested 918 beggars. Amongst them,529 were shifted to Edhi home while challans were submitted into relevant courts against professional beggars.

Police spokesman said that significant reduction has been witnessed in car and bike theft and dacoity, murder, kidnapping for ransom, robberies incidents. He said that special police pickets at entry as well as exit points and effective checking helped to reduce such nature of crime.

SSP Islamabad Mir Vais Niaz has said it is the prime responsibility of police to provide relief to citizens, adding that every possible effort would be made to provide protection to the lives and property of citizens as well as resolving their complaints on immediate basis. He stressed for effective steps to curb crime and activities of anti-social elements. The SSP urged all police officials to adopt decent attitude for success in policing affairs and said sluggish attitude towards resolving public affairs would not be tolerated.
