On Prime Minister’s Instructions National Disaster Management Authority sends Teams to Flood hit areas for Anti-Malaria Campaign

Islamabad: Incessant rains have caused flooding situation in Sindh. There is a rising apprehension of outbreak of epidemics in the flood hit areas.

In a pre-emptive concern initiative for the well being of the affected population, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has instructed National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to launch an anti-malaria campaign in the flood hit areas.

In compliance with the directives of the Prime Minister, the NDMA is sending forthwith Assessment Teams to all the affected areas of the recent floods. These teams consist of experts from the UNDP, UNHABITAT, UNESCO, UNOCHA and IOM.

In addition, the NDMA has dispatched another 10,000 tents which have been received by PDMA, Sindh. The NDMA has ordered the Utility Stores Corporation to provide 50,000 more ration packs for the flood affectees. In this context 12 NDMA teams have reached all the flood affected areas.

The NDMA is working incessantly to alleviate the hardships of the flood affectees.

Prime Minister Gilani Visits Residence Of Hamid Mir

Islamabad: The Prime Minister went to the residence of Mr. Hamid Mir, Anchorperson and Amir Mir in Lahore today in respect of the Late Waris Mir the prime minister’s his professor at the University of the Punjab.

While talking to the people present there, the Prime Minister said that the people of the country in general and in particular the people of Sindh have stood up against the land grabbers, extortionists, and terrorists and they would not rest till these criminals are eliminated from the province who have kept normal urban life as their hostage.

The Prime Minister said that action across the board would be taken against those who had robbed the state’s wealth adding that thousands acres of land would be retrieved as per the revenue record of the government. National wealth belongs to the people of Pakistan and not to the criminals and they would be made to pay every paisa looted.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has given one month time to the land grabbers of Karachi to vacate the state land worth of trillions of rupees within one month, this he said when he visited the residence of Mr.Hamid Mir, columnist and Anchorperson, as a token of respect to his father who was Prime minister’s teacher.

The Prime Minister while expressing his views about the question of new provinces said that the people of Southern Punjab feel that the issue of creation of more provinces has been launched to sabotage their movement.

The Prime Minister said that the PPP leadership believed in consensus and would take decision of national importance on that basis as it had done in case of constitutional amendments, NFC Awards, GB, KP, Balochistan Package etc.

The Prime Minister said that the Federal Government fully supported the operation across board in nine areas of Karachi which was successfully underway .The Prime Minister said that the law Enforcement Agencies were under instructions to take action on the credible intelligence with a view to minimize collateral damage.

The Prime Minister said that peace in Karachi is critical for the economy of the country as the city is the economic hub of the country. We cannot afford the law and order situation to go out of hand. We will succeed as it is the only option, the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister said that the PPP had long and long experience of movements against dictators and therefore others should desist from intimidating the Party of agitational politics. They should discuss all the issues in the Parliament which is the symbol of the people of Pakistan and democracy.

Zardari proposes 4-point strategy to boost regional economic

Dushanbe: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday proposed a four-point strategy to boost economic cooperation among Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Russia. Addressing the third quadrilateral summit here, he called for regional connectivity framework to physically connect the member states with road, railway and air links.

The President pointed out that Russia, Tajikistan are already connected and Pakistan may consider the road link from Dushanbe to Chitral in Pakistan through Iskatul Gulkhana in Afghanistan. This would both be a shortest road by land and also link the ports of Gwadar and Karachi to Dushanbe and onwards to Russia, he added.

The President gave proposal for preferential trade arrangements, transit trade facilities, joint business forums, trade exhibitions and joint ventures in banking, textile, cement, agriculture and steel sectors to give a major boost to commercial and trade relations.

In this regard, he pointed out, the expansion of the Afghanistan Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement and said inclusion of other partners would be a significant step.

He said effective utilization of water resources and energy generation will determine peace and direction of our economies. In this connection, implementation of CASA 1000 hydro electricity project is of great significance.

President Zardari told the conference that terrorism, drug trafficking and organized criminal activities pose security challenges and are a threat to our countries. They have developed a nexus that must be defeated through close cooperation, coordination and action.

The President emphasized that it is only through regional solution that we can address regional issues. He said we are collective stakeholders in our common aspirations for peace, stability and development in the region.

Referring to the menace of terrorism, he said Pakistan itself has paid a heavy price in its campaign against terrorism and extremism. “We are closely working with President Karzai and support his efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan. Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan, he said.

He said Pakistan fully supports and remains committed to the success of Afghan led and Afghan owned reconciliation process in that country.

The President pointed out that durable peace also requires economic dividends. We already had a meeting of our economic and commerce minister and a number of projects have been identified for development.

Joint Experts should meet in near future for technical discussions on these projects, he added. He said anti narcotics chiefs of the four countries have also met and discussed measures to combat drug trafficking.

The President proposed establishment of a coordination mechanism headed by four foreign ministers and assisted by the foreign secretaries to follow up on the growing thread of cooperation and to report to the next summit.

President Zardari reiterated Pakistan offer to host the next quadrilateral summit in Islamabad next year.

All our efforts to provide relief to people: Governor

Karachi: Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has said that government was fully aware and supportive to the victims of terrorism and floods despite resource constraints.

“There is need to create awareness in the society and provide relief to the people facing hardships in one way or the other,” he said while talking to various delegates after offering Eid prayers at Governor on Wednesday.

He was of the view that the holy month of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak always taught the people about tolerance, peace and love to mankind.

The Governor offered Eid prayers along with the Acting President Farooq H. Naek at Governor House. Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Mohammed Abbas, DCO Karachi and other high ups were also present on the occasion.

Later, he also exchanged Eid greetings with senior Army officials, Ulema, diplomats and general public. On the occasion, wife of Sindh Governor Mrs Shaheena Ebad Khan was also present and welcomed the women delegates from walks of life.

Zardari reiterates Pakistan’s commitment to continue fight against terrorism

Dushanbe: President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continue fight against terrorism and extremism for the sake of regional and global peace. Speaking at a joint press conference along with presidents of Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Afghanistan after the conclusion of the third quadrilateral summit here on Friday, President Zardari said that Pakistan was fully supportive of the process of reconciliation initiated by Afghan President Hamid Karzai for restoration of peace in his country. He said that leaders of the four countries talked about economic cooperation, trade, opening of road and rail links and exchanged views on issues of peace and security in the region.

He said that Pakistan was playing a constructive role in the region and was part of the solution and not part of the problem.

The President said that the world was talking about the warm water and today the summit discussed about trade through warm water.

He said that this region had the potential to lead the world and South Asia, Central Asia and China would emerged economic powers.

He told the conference that terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crimes were posing security challenges and were a threat to the countries and it must be defeated through close cooperation, coordination and action.

President Zardari emphasized that the regional issues’ solution should be sought through regional approach. He said, “we are collective stakeholders in our common aspirations for peace, stability and development in the region.”

Speaking on the occasion, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said that the leaders discussed terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and economic cooperation in various sectors. He said this platform would provide an opportunity to the four-member states to further strengthen bilateral regional relations.

Russian President Demitry Medvedev said that his country was ready to invest hundreds of millions of dollar in Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and stressed for ensurance of peaceful atmosphere for success of such projects.

He said that the regional issues should be resolved by the regional states and called for collective efforts to fight the menace of terrorism and drug trafficking in the region.

Tajik President Emomali Rehman said that deliberations of the third quadrilateral summit were highly productive as the leaders exchanged views on how to intensify economic cooperation and coordinate their efforts for promotion of regional peace and security.

He hoped that the decisions taken by the summit would go a long way in bringing the four countries together.

Director General Intelligence Bureau paid farewell call on the Prime Minister Gilani

Islamabad: Mr.Javed Noor, Director General Intelligence Bureau, who is attaining superannuation, paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at Prime Minister’s Secretariat this morning.
