Wanted killers and nine outlaws arrested

Islamabad: Islamabad Police on Saturday apprehended two persons wanted to police in various murder cases and also nabbed nine other outlaws from various areas of the city besides recovering hashish and wine from their possession, a police spokesman said.

According to details, Akhtar Nawaz resident of Bari Imam Mohallah Nori Bagh was shot dead by Manzoor over a monetary dispute on October 10. After this incident, the culprit managed to escape and police team working under the supervision of SHO Secretariat police station Inspector Hakim Khan and Sub-Inspector Shahid Mehmud started the investigation. Police team succeeded to arrest the killer and recovered murder toll (30 bore pistol) and mobile as well watch of the deceased from his possession.

Meanwhile, Koral police apprehended another killer who murdered Rozi Khan, owner of Bismillah hotel in Khana area. He was shot dead when he asked three suspected persons as why they had been sitting in the area. This annoyed these persons and they shot him dead over the spot.

SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik assigned task to SP (Rural) Faisal Bashir Memon to trace the perpetrator of this heinous crime. A special team headed by him including SHO Koral police station Inspector Sajjad Hussain Bhukhari, Sub-Inspector Abuld Waheed and others managed to arrest two persons Rooh Ullah and Amin Qaisar while their third accomplice Nisar Ahmed has been also arrested after hectic efforts by police team.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sarfaraz Ahmed from Aabpara police station nabbed Babar Masish during routine patrolling from sector G-7/3-2 and recovered 50 liquor bottles from their possession.

Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ali from CIA police nabbed three thieves Asar Ali, Ejaz Ahmed, Saif Akram and recovered looted items from his possession while ASI Muhammad Raees also arrested a thief identified as Maavia besides recovering stolen items from his possession.

ASI Shafqat Mehmud from Sabzi Mandi police nabbed a drug pusher identified as Akbar and recovered 1.150 kilogram hashish while ASI Zulfiqar Ali from Shehzad town police arrested Asser Alam for having 32 bore pistol.

Nilore police arrested two persons Kamran and Naseer Ehsan besides recovering stolen motorbike and other valuables from them. Women police arrested a woman alm-seekers Hamida Bibi from sector F-10 while Golra police also arrested two court absconders.

Cases have been registered against these nabbed persons under relevant sections and further investigation is underway from them. IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Kan and SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik have appreciated this performance and directed all police officials to intensify patrolling and vigilance against anti-social elements. They said that police is endeavouring best to resolve public complaints and providing them security.

National Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker Condole the Death of Brother-in-Law of Additional Secretary National Assembly

Islamabad: Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker and Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly have expressed their grief and sorrow over the passing away of Abdul Rasheed Qureshi, brother-in-law of Syed Munawar Abass, Additional Secretary National Assembly who died on Friday in Islamabad after protracted illness.

In their separate condolence messages to Syed Munawar Abass and the other members of the bereaved family, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker expressed their heartfelt grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Abdul Rasheed Qureshi. They prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.

Rasm-e-Qul of Abdul Rasheed Qureshi will be held on 30th October, 2011 after Namaz-e-Zohar in Al-fateh Masjid, St.No.4, Sector G-9/3, Islamabad.

Pakistan strongly rejects assertions made in a BBC series

Islamabad: Pakistan strongly rejects assertions made in the BBCs series ‘Secret Pakistan’. The series makes baseless and fabricated allegations.

Pakistan has borne the brunt of terrorist violence including suicide attacks. Fiction such as those depicted in the series cannot belittle Pakistan’s sacrifices and contribution in countering terrorism.

President convenes special meeting for dewatering on Sunday

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday has a long discussion with legislators, district administration of flood affected areas and irrigation authorities on dewatering in flood affected areas of Sindh through video conferencing from Control Centre at Bilawal House Karachi and convened a special meeting on Sunday to further discuss dewatering issue with Ministry of Water and Power, WAPDA, experts and international consultants, appointed for this purpose.

International experts will submit the Master Plan for drainage to handle similar calamities in the provinces in future.

During the today’s video conferencing President visited districts of Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Allahyar, T M Khan, Matiari, Nausheroferoz, Badin and Khairpur and interacted with the Government and MNAs, Senators, MPAs and DCOs of these areas.

The conference was informed that an international assistance of Rs 18 billion has so far been committed for the flood affectees 2011. In compliance with President’s directive the NDMA and PDMA have placed details of relief measures provided to affectees so far on their website which is open for public, it was further informed.

President was also informed that an overall Master Plan is being prepared for the entire province of Sindh to deal with similar calamities in future because of fears that this cycle may continue for a few years as a result of climatic change.

President Zardari directed WPADA to prepare a similar master plan for the province of Balochistan which has also been partially affected during recent floods.

President said that he will soon be visiting the flood affected areas once again to see for himself the relief measures taken and to be with the people in distress.

The President also called upon the affluent people of society to step forward and to generously help the poor people who had been affected by the floods so that they are also able to enjoy the Eid celebrations like rest of the people.

The President especially inquired about progress made in the distribution of Pakistan Cards among the affectees. The President was informed that additional NADRA staff was working with provincial component of Disaster Management Authority and Government of Sindh to expedite setting up more centres for processing and distribution of Pakistan Cards. The President directed to expedite the procedure so that more people could be catered before the Eid.

The President during video conferencing also visited the NDMA website and inspected the availability of procurement information which has been made available on website.

It may be recalled that NDMA while submitting its compliance report of the President’s earlier directives has informed the Presidency that it worked out a comprehensive mechanism for procurements and ensuring uninterrupted supply chain management for the flood affectees.

The NDMA has made available on internet all the data concerning details of vendors, purchase orders, goods procured, unit price, quantity procured, payments and even the cheque numbers issued against each payment.

The President appreciated NDMA’s effort and called for the need for the other departments to follow the precedent of making all information of public concern available for easy access of the public. The President also directed all the concerned district officials to facilitate the farmers of their areas and to ensure availability of wheat seed to them for the Rabi crop 2011-12.

The President said that any delay in the distribution mechanism would adversely affect the farmer and will not be tolerated, he continued. The President was informed that dewatering process of the stagnated water has almost been completed in the most affected areas.

The President also recalled his earlier directive for carrying out a comprehensive study to examine feasibility of diverting flood waters to the natural catchments areas and called for its early implementation.

Ambassador Mr. Khalid Aziz Babar highlighted the significance of the Kashmir issue

Islamabad: A function was held at the Embassy of Pakistan here today on the occasion of Kashmir Black Day marking the 64th anniversary of the Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, says a press release received from Tehran here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Mr. Khalid Aziz Babar highlighted the significance of the Kashmir issue saying that the Kashmiris are unanimous in their demand, for self-determination.

The Ambassador said Pakistan will continue to stand by the Kashmiri people, in their just cause. We urge the international community, to take steps for safeguarding, the human rights of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan is committed to finding a just and peaceful resolution, of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions, and wishes and aspirations, of the Kashmiri people.

Renowned Iranian scholars, Dr. Rajabbi, Dr. Mostafavi Sabzvari and a senior Iranian journalist Hamid Gul Pira expressed support and solidarity with the Kashmiri people struggling to achieve their right of self-determination. Besides, highlighting cultural and religious links between Iran and Kashmir, they called upon the international community to throw their full support for the just struggle for the Kashmiri people.

Iranian poets Nasir Yamin Mardokhi and Dr. Muhammad Hussain Tasbbahi recited poems on Kashmir and just struggle of the Kashmiri people to achieve their right of self-determination. They praised the courage and determination of the Kashmiri people and prayed for their success.

The function was attended by a large number of Iranian academicians, scholars, intellectuals, leading journalists and members of the Pakistani community.

Punjab University Syndicate takes landmark step, ownership rights of plots to be given to teachers, employees, Vice Chancellor lauded

Lahore: Punjab University Syndicate, in its meeting presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran at the Committee Room of Vice Chancellor here on Saturday, took a landmark decision that ownership rights of the plots in Town 1 and Town 2 will be given to the current and previous teachers and employees.

In this regard, PU legal adviser Shahzad Shaukat was also called in the meeting for legal opinion and upon his advice, all the members of the meeting mutually agreed in the light of his opinion and decided to give ownership rights.

Upon this milestone decision, a wave of joy was witnessed among faculty members and employees who thanked the vice-chancellor for his efforts in this regard and greeted each other. It is also pertinent to mention here that Punjab University Employees Housing Society was established in 2002 and till 2007, the only progress which was made that the maps of Town 1 and Town 2 were approved from LDA.

While the current administration, in the short span of only 3 and a half years, completed development work including roads, sewage, water supply, approval of natural gas and agreement with LESCO for establishment of grid station, which is a great achievement in a limited tenure. While the university has already got legal frame work de-notified 9 months ago.

Meanwhile, Institute of Communication Studies Director Dr Ahsan Akhter Naz, who was given a chance of personal hearing on his request to counter allegations proved in an inquiry conducted by a committee, sent a fax to the Vice Chancellor’s office mentioning that he was in hospital due to which he can’t come for personal hearing.

The members of the Syndicate than decided to give him last and final chance to personally appear before the members of syndicate within a month to answer allegations else the ex-parte proceedings will be initiated and the case will be decided ex-parte.
