Islamabad: A delegation headed by Honourable Mr. Justice Mohammad Almhamid Chief Justice/President Supreme Court of Jordan and comprising on Honourable Judge Jamil Al Mahadin, Honourable Judge Abdoh Shamoot, Honourable Judge Ammar Al Huseini and Mr. ZeidAlTlafih, Supreme Court of Jordan called on the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice. Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary today i.e. 25.03.2012 at Pearl Continental, Bhuran.
While welcoming the delegation, Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan said “it is an honour to receive such a high level judicial delegation”.
Discussing the issues of mutual interest, his lordship told the delegation that there are similarities between both the countries as both have similar culture and social values. We can take advantage by sharing the experiences and knowledge of one another. It will enhance the cooperation between the judiciaries of the both countries.
The prime purpose of any judiciary is to interpret the constitution and provide speedy and quick justice to litigants by settling their disputes and granting them relief so that law may take its course and governance may improve. The exchange of delegations would be a useful way to take advantage of the experiences of one another and it will also improve the cooperation between the two countries.
The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan told the Chief Justice of Jordan that Judges and court staff of Jordan can also take advantage from our judicial academies which are established at Islamabad and at all Provincial Headquarters to impart judicial education to Judges and court staff.
The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan further told that due to the judicial training, the relationship between both of the countries can flourish and enhance. The meeting of Registrars will also be held tomorrow to work out courses and facilities which will be extended to the participants and other issues.
The Chief Justice of Jordan reciprocated the sentiments and informed his lordship that the public of Jordan knows the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan by his name and the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan is not only an icon of independence of judiciary in Pakistan but in other countries of the world as well. He is leading light for rest of the judiciaries.
The Chief Justice of Jordan further told about the judicial system of Jordan that apart from common laws, Islamic laws are enforced in Jordan. Non-Muslims are treated according to their own rules in family divorce and inheritance matters. There are three types of courts, 1. Trial Courts which civil and criminal cases, 2. Appellate Courts. 3. Supreme Court of Jordan which is a final arbiter and apex Court of the country.
The Chief Justice of Jordan informed his lordship that the purpose of their visit was to get firsthand knowledge of the judicial system of Pakistan and court functioning so as to get advantage from the experience and judicial system of Pakistan which will enhance the cooperation between the judiciaries of the both countries.
The Chief Justice of Jordan further told that people of Pakistan have friendly sentiments for Jordan. Students from Jordan also come to Pakistan for study and they have also married Pakistani girls. He further informed that the Constitution of Jordan is being prepared wherein the judicial reforms and independence of judiciary will also find mention.
The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan informed the delegation that the prime purpose of judiciary is to redress the grievance of public at large and to dispense justice to them. Dispensation of justice and independence of judiciary is a sin-qua-non for development and stability of the country.
Where there is better judicial system, the country can flourish and its economy becomes stable. Independent judiciary plays a vital role for good governance in the country. Where modern laws, efficient judicial system works and people trust their judiciary, there not only local people invest but foreign investors will also come because good governance plays role for better and stable economy.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan informed the Chief Justice of Jordan about the tricot my of power in Pakistan i.e. legislative, judiciary and executive. All the organs are independent in their ambits and respect the mandate of each other. Supremacy of law and supremacy of constitution is basic principle which is followed.
The Chief Justice of Jordan also made a speech in South Asian Conference on Environmental Justice and witnessed the proceedings.
