Pakistan Steel Mills Chief Executive Officer expresses grief on Incident

Karachi, September 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Steel Major General Mohammad Javed HI-M(Retd) expressed grief on the incident of lift collapse in Steel Making Department of Pakistan Steel. He ordered for the inquiry about the incident and also the complete treatment with special care for the affected employees working on the lift. CEO constituted a high level committee with instructions to present the detail report of the incident on priority basis.

According to initial reports the incident happened during the repair work of a cargo lift in Steel Making Department, from 8 meters height the lift suddenly fall down. This was a “Cargo lift” used for transportation of different items, 5 workers of PSM who were working on the top of the lift were minor injured in the incident.

The affected workers were immediately transferred to Pakistan Steel Hospital where they have been provided all medical treatment. Further on the special directives of CEO, one of the workers named Naved Akhter was further shifted to Liaquat National Hospital for better treatment and care.

Sports Board Punjab dengue walk sets up new record of participation

Lahore, September 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Walk for Cause organized by the Sports Board Punjab for healthy society and dengue awareness broke all previous records of participation of any walk here on Sunday.

The walk which was led by Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and Director General Sports Board and Youth Affairs Usman Anwar, recorded the participation of more than 50,000 people from all walks of life. Secretary Sports Haroon Ahmed Khan was also among the participants and led the ladies walk.

Despite overnight and morning rain around 30,000 male and 20,000 females took part in the walk holding banners for awareness for the eradication of dengue before it spread havoc. The walk started from Liberty Chowk till Main Market and different sects of the society participated while the walk of the ladies coming from various schools, colleges, teachers, professors, hospitals nurses, doctors etc also started from the Liberty Chowk and took a U-turn from Hafeez Centre back to the start point.

Barbbed wire was kept the ladies and gents walkers separate while Rescue 1122, Civil Defence and Police had a close vigilance on the route to avoid any untoward or unethical incident.

The participants were not only entertained by clowns, different well-known musicians but also aero modals which displayed different acrobatic skills in midair. The modal aeroplanes and helicopters took their flight from the Gulberg Main Boulevard and circulated above the Liberty Chowk and landed at the same venue.

On the other hand the different singers including Waris Baig, Malku and Nadeem Abbas entertained the crowd while there were some of the actors who Abid Kashimiri, Zakota Jin and several others provided some amusement among the children of different schools and colleges.

“The Sports Board has been doing a great job in the organization the Punjab Youth Festival and the Punjab government after watching the enthusiasm of the youth in the Festival thought to utilize their passion for the war against dengue,” said Rana Mashhood.

Rana Mashhood, who is also chief organizer of the Punjab Youth Festival, said that it was the mission of the Punjab government and Khadim-i-Aala to provide the province a clean and healthy environment. “It was his effort that the dengue spread is under full control as compared to the last year. The positive steps taken by the government has prevented it from increasing,” he maintained.

“The nation is united on one platform and today’s walk is the proof of the public and government collaboration stepped up efforts for a clean and healthy environment free of dengue,” he added.

He further stated that the first level of the Punjab Youth Festival had established a record of participation of 1.5 million and likewise the influx of people for the Walk for a Cause is also a record. “I have not seen such a big participation, interest and passion of people in any other walk,” he maintained.

The participants of the walk not only enjoyed the light drizzle but also entertained to the beat of the music while the children enjoyed the clown characters.

In the end, the deputy speaker also praised the efforts of Usman Anwar and the other organisers of the walk.

Information Minister addresses Inaugural Ceremony of Norway Pakistan Chamber of Commerce in Norway

Islamabad, September 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): The government of Pakistan has taken many business friendly initiatives in the country as a result of which Pakistan offers best investment opportunities for the foreign as well as the local investors. The law and order situation is improving in the country day by day and the security forces of Pakistan, with the support of masses, have defeated the terrorists and extremists on many fronts. The economy of Pakistan is growing at a fast pace and we need trade rather than aid for further stabilizing our economy.

These observations were made by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Norway Pakistan Chamber of Commerce here in Oslo. The stability of our economy will help us to overcome many challenges facing our country, particularly war against terrorism, the Minister said, says a press release received here today from Oslo.

While referring to the current energy crisis in Pakistan, the Minister said that it is severely affecting the lives of masses and the government of Pakistan has taken many initiatives to overcome this issue. He, referring to the extensive Norwegian potential and expertise in energy sector, particularly requested the Norwegian investors and government to invest in this sector and assist government of Pakistan in solving the problems of masses.

He further said that the establishment of Norway Pakistan Chamber of Commerce is a step in right direction and it would provide a platform for investment and for strengthening trade ties between Norway and Pakistan.

Earlier, Mr. Kjell Magne Bondevik, former Prime Minister of Norway, addressing the ceremony said that although Norway and Pakistan are far away geographically but they have many commonalities and they have decades old close ties. He said that there is vast scope of trade and business between Pakistan and Norway. He added that the Norway Pakistan Chamber of Commerce would help to find new avenues of trade between the two countries.

During the ceremony, Mr. Aamir Shiekh President of Norway Pakistan Chamber of Commerce, briefed the audience about the objectives and goals of the Chamber.

Prime Minister to visit China from 10-13, September 2012 to attend World Economic Forum

Islamabad, September 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will pay an official visit to the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of the Chinese government from 10 – 13 September 2012 to attend the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting of New Champions 2012 at Tianjin, China. Finance Minister, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh will accompany the Prime Minister during the visit.

The Prime Minister, on the sideline of WEF, will hold bilateral meeting with His Excellency Wen Jiabao, the Prime Minister of China.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with other head of the governments invited to the forum.

The Prime Minister will also interact with CEOs of prominent Chinese companies and business leaders besides interaction with the Chinese media during the visit.

The Prime Minister will lead discussion during the “Business Interaction Group on Pakistan”. The session will be moderated by WEF Head of Asia as approximately fifty (50) corporate leaders are expected to attend the session.

The Prime Minister will also be discussion leader during the informal gathering of World Economic Leaders.
