Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary for adopting austerity measures

Peshawar, January 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Muhammad Shehzad Arbab has strictly directed all the administrative secretaries to adopt austerity measures in their respective departments and also to ensure proper and quick implementation of the reforms agenda of the present government for the larger interests of the general public and categorically stated that no compromise would be accepted in the improvement of the overall efficiency of the government departments.

He was chairing a high level meeting at the cabinet room of civil secretariat, Peshawar on Friday. All the administrative secretaries and other concerned officers attended the meeting. The chief secretary stated that the secretaries were the overall incharges of their respective departments and efforts should be accelerated to come up to the expectations of the general masses and to bring constructive changes according to the well of the present government.

The CS regretted that response from majority of the departments in the implementation process of different measures of the provincial government was slow and he wanted to expedite it at all costs.

He said the provincial government was very serious in adopting austerity measures and in this regard he wanted to take cuts in some of the sectors side by side with revising the less important factors so that saving could be made in the provincial exchequer.

The Chief Secretary further regretted that office timings were not followed and directed the heads of all the nation-building departments to ensure timely presence of government employees and also timely implementation of the official initiatives in a bid to avoid the practice of reminders against any official matter forthwith.

The chief secretary was briefed in detail on the sectors where cuts in the expenses during the fiscal year 2013-14 could be taken. He was told that a 10-member committee headed by the ministers for finance, information and others had been constituted which would revise the non-governmental expenditures and would recommend proper proposals for cuts to reduce the expenses.

The same committee will also appoint sub-committees for assigning the task in this regard. The chief secretary admitted that though terrorism was a big challenge for the government but urged the secretaries to utilize their services for improving the system with fully coordinating each other and playing their active role in the reforms implementation process ensuring the desired change.

The meeting also discussed the visits of various secretaries to the different districts and progress report in this regard was reviewed. The chief secretary directed for proper follow up in the policy measures. Problems faced by different departments in the implementation of the reforms agenda also came under discussion and decisions taken in this regard. The CS also appreciated performance of some of the departments.

Chief of Army Staff witnesses Army Polo Championship Finals

Rawalpindi, January 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): The spectators were treated to a fine brand of Polo during Army Polo Championship Finals held at Lahore Garrison Polo ground. Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, was the Chief Guest and awarded prizes to the winners of Army Polo and Tent Pegging Championship.

The Rawalpindi Zone knocked Peshawar Zone to runners up position in the stunning finals and took the elusive title of 2013 champions after an invigorating contest which ended with 5 1/2 to 5. Third spot was claimed by Mangla Zone, winning the day’s earlier fixture by 6 1/2 goals to 3 ahead of Rawalpindi B team.

The final could not have been a more fierce fight between two incredible teams, Rawalpindi Zone and Peshawar Zone. The players and ponies jostled for the lead continuously with each taking their turn at the top. In the end it all came to a head in the last chukkar when Maj Gen Asfandyar Padauti scored a spectacular goal with the back hander taking Rawalpindi Zone’s score to 5 1/2 goals, just 1/2 goal ahead of Peshawar Zone and secured victory and 2013 title for this consistently high quality team.

This is the second time they have stood atop of the podium at the Army Polo Championship. Team of Rawalpindi Zone received the Army Polo Championships trophy, while Captain Naeem, Team captain of Gujranwala Zone received the Army Tent Pegging Trophy.

Earlier, the spectators were enthralled by equestrian games. The remarkable horsemanship by Army Tent Peggers, a brilliant horse dancing show and tilting tunes of Army band added colour to the concluding ceremony of week-long Army Polo and Tent Pegging Championship.

Cabinet to approve establishment of Paramedical Council: Yousafzai

Peshawar, January 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has said that it is the priority of government to facilitate the people and strengthen institutes. He said historical initiatives had been taken in this regard. He directed the concerned institutes and authorities to play their vital role in ensuring the best delivery of services to the public.

This he said while presiding over a high level meeting of Health Department regarding demands of Para Medical Association on Thursday. Secretary Health, Special Secretary Health and representatives of Finance, Establishment, Medical Faculty and other concerned departments attended the meeting.

On this occasion, the Health Minister on the request of Paramedical Association to formulate para medical council said that it was really genuine demand which was the need of hour and he would provide every possible assistance required by the association in this respect.

He said after the 18th Amendment, it was the responsibility of province to facilitate the public, that was why the present provincial government was taking multi-sectoral initiatives for the welfare of public.

Shaukat Yousafzai said that he was sincere enough to establish provincial paramedical council and asked the paramedical association to speed up work in this regard as he wanted to put it up before provincial cabinet for its approval in principle. He said the matter would not be delayed on the excuse that the same council had not been established at federal level and other provinces as yet.

On this occasion, other issues and demands of association regarding teaching faculty, promotion of paramedics, health professional allowance, limited practice and medical faculty were also discussed in detail.

The provincial minister while assuring to resolve the problems said that almost all problems confronted to paramedics would be redressed in their service structure. However, the logical reasons behind the demand of health professional allowance should be presented in the next meeting, he concluded.

Dr. Nuzhat appointed Specialist Ophthalmology

Peshawar, January 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): The competent authority on the recommendations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission has ordered the appointment of Dr. Nuzhat D/O S. Ahrar ul Haq, Junior Registrar LRH, Peshawar as Distt: Specialist Ophthalmology BS-18 on regular basis with immediate effect. She will be on probation for a period of one year extendable for another one year.

Consequent upon the above, the services of Dr. Nuzhat have been placed at the disposal of Chief Executive LRH, Peshawar for further posting against any vacant post of BS-18 for drawl of pay. It was notified by Health Department Govt: of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
