Operational meeting of National Highway and Motorway Police through Video Link

Islamabad, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): The IG NH and MP Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema has ordered for strict enforcement on lane discipline, helmet and seat belt for the upcoming three months. He also ordered to ensure the presence of two drivers in PSV vehicles of long route for the safety of commuters. He was addressing the Operational Officers through video link at Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Sukkur, Multan and Quetta in the HEC auditorium. The meeting was attended by all zonal DIGs and Sector SSPs of NH and MP.

The Inspector General examined operational affairs of each sector in detail and passed directions. He stressed that free flow of traffic on highways and motorways is foremost and basic principle of the department that can only be achieved by strict lane discipline; therefore all-out efforts be made, to maintain lane discipline on highways and motorways.

IG, NH and MP showed satisfaction on the reduction of accidents in the last six months on highways and motorways but ordered to give more attention to patrolling and all operational matters. He also ordered the DIG Training to start courses on “Public Dealings” in the NH and MP Training College.

He said that officers should stress on helping the road users in distress more instantly as facilitating commuters is one of the salient features of the department. The Inspector General desired absolute impartiality strict discipline and zero tolerance towards corruption, dishonesty and rude behavior with road users. It was also decided to enhance the welfare packages of the officers.

At the end of the meeting Inspector General, Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema thanked the management of Higher Education Commission for their assistance in holding video Conference.

Motorway Police arranges Road Safety Cycle rally in collaboration with Critical Mass Volunteers Group

Islamabad, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): National Highways and Motorway Police North Zone arranged a Road Safety awareness Cycle Rally with the assistance of the Critical Mass Volunteers Group.

The rally started from Motorway Toll Plaza and ended at DIG North office Motorway chowk 26 number chungi Rawalpindi. More than 50 cyclists from different walks of life including 15 children and female cycle riders participated in the rally to sensitize the public on the importance of Road Safety. The main theme of the said rally was to inculcate the importance of use of the safety helmet while riding motorcycle and cycle. DIG North Muhammad Zubair Hashmi was the chief guest at the occasion.

Managing Director Dockyard calls on Administrator Karachi

Karachi, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui said all possible measures will be taken for improving the condition of Dockyard Road. This would provide convenience to people in their travel to dockyard and other adjoining areas.

He said this while talking to M.D of Dockyard Commodore Sajid Iqbal Hussain who called on him in his office to discuss the matters relating to improvement of transportation, communication and infrastructure development in the dockyard area. Director General Engineering Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Sr. Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Sr. Director HRM Shoaib Waqar and other officers also attended the meeting.

Administrator Karachi said we need to own our city, better results could be achieved if every organization in the city works for the betterment and progress of Karachi. He said KMC was performing development works in various parts of the city which were aimed at providing better municipal facilities to citizens. All possible efforts will be made to improve the condition of dockyard road and other roads in the city.

Creative abilities of students must be encouraged: Metropolitan Commissioner

Karachi, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui said parents should thoroughly oversee the activities in which their children indulge and fully help them in making their career. The creative abilities must be encouraged at all level of school teaching. He said this while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of The Creative Academy in Gulzar-e-Hijri.

He urged the parents to fulfill their duties despite of facing hurdles. Colonel(R) Ahtishamuddin who chaired the program, said welfare works were aimed at serving the people and providing education and training was also part of it.

He urged the well offs in our society to join hands with such organizations which were working for welfare of people. On this occasion he announced to start the Rehber Social Welfare Organization which would provide educational facilities to people. School Principal Muhammad Khalid also spoke on this occasion.

Capital Development Authority to start cleanliness drive from 12th February

Islamabad, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Mr. Maroof Afzal has said that CDA will start a cleanliness drive in the city from 12th of February 2014 . The cleanliness drive will initially focus on six sectors including I-10, I-9,G-10, G-9,F-7 and F-6.The motive behind this initiative is to provide hygienic atmosphere to the citizens of Islamabad. The Chairman expressed these views while chairing a meeting to review overall cleanliness situation in the city. The meeting was attended by high officials of concerned formations of the Authority.

As prelude to robust cleanliness drive, the Authority will initiate an awareness campaign in the city. The purpose behind the awareness campaign is to sensitize the citizens and invite their co-operation towards the upcoming drive in particular and day to day co-operation in general, the Chairman further said.

The Chairman CDA during the meeting further said that CDA and the residents of the Capital city are equal stakeholders in the well being of the city. CDA is utilizing best of its energies and resources to improve sanitary conditions in the city. The residents of the city should also contribute to keep Islamabad green and clean.

The Chairman CDA directed all the concerned formations of the Authority to gear up themselves for the upcoming cleanliness drive. The Chairman further directed the concerned formations to make sure the cleanliness of the city on daily basis. The cleanliness of major avenues of Islamabad, besides residential areas should be given priority. An inclusive plan of action should be formulated to make certain the daily based cleanliness of the principal avenues of the city, he further directed.

Water supply from Left Bank Canal to remain close from Feb 04 to Feb 07 2014

Islamabad, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): A spokesperson of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that due to annual repair and maintenance, Left Bank Canal of Khanpur Dam which supply water to Islamabad will remain closed from February 4 to February 7, 2014. This canal closure will cause shortage of water supply to the F-10, F-11, G-9 and G-10 sectors.

CDA spokesman has requested the residents of these sectors of the city to be careful and calculated in use of water during these four (4) days of canal’s closure. The spokesman further said that in case of water shortage residents may call CDA water tanker service.

Punjab Youth Festival 2014: Nishtar Town clinches Title of Kabadi

Lahore, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): The kabaddi event of the District Level of the Punjab Youth Festival 2014 went in favour of Nishtar Town. The event was participated by 11 teams from different towns of the district. But the final match took place between Nishtar Town and Aziz Bhatti Town, which was decided in favour of the former.

A large number of people thronged the arena at Nishtar Colony ground to witness the competition between some top kabaddi players of the city. In the first half of the match both the teams remained locked even and later in the second session of the match, Nishtar Town players Arshad Makhan and Imran Meo displayed great skills to take the match away from the rival team. Divisional Sports Convener and MPA Mian Naseer Ahmad graced the occasion as chief guest while MPA Malik Saiful Malook and DCO Dr. Javed Ahmed Qazi were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Naseer Ahmad and Saiful Malook said that Festival alongside the other sports events is also promoting traditional sports like Wrestling, Kabaddi and Tug of War. These sports are now being played both at urban and rural areas of the Province and with this spirit and zeal, we would win the Kabaddi World Cup one day.
