Privatisation Commission to reconstitute its panel of lawyers

Islamabad, February 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): Board Meeting No 2/2014 of Privatisation Commission was held today under the Chairmanship of Mohammad Zubair, MoS/ Chairman Privatisation Commission. Board Members including Arsala Khan Hoti, Nasiruddin Ahmad, Zafar Iqbal Sobani, Farooq Khan, Zafar Iqbal and Secretary Privatisation Commission Amjad Ali Khan attended the meeting.

The Board directed the Privatisation Commission to reconstitute the panel of lawyers for Privatisation Commission and approved the enhanced fee structure for the lawyers. The Board considered and approved the restructuring and privatisation of two DISCOs (FESCO and LESCO) and one GENCO (TPS Muzaffargarh 1350 MW). It was also decided to initiate the process for hiring of services of Financial Advisors (FAs) for the above mentioned Public Sector Entities, for its privatisation.

Finance minister chairs 5th meeting of committee for development and management of Bari Imam Shrine/Complex Islamabad

Islamabad, February 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired 5th meeting of Committee for Development and Management of Bari Imam Shrine/Complex Islamabad to review progress of the construction, development and uplift work.

The Minister directed that development and construction work, other than the shrine minaret, be completed by 7th March 2014. The ICT and CDA management earlier briefed the Minister on latest progress of the construction and development work of the Bari Imam Shrine Project in terms of issues relating to designing, embellishment and finishing work besides focusing on the calligraphic details of the shrine.

It was agreed that the development facets of the Shrine Complex may be segmentized to speed up its completion as directed. CDA management, during the course of briefing, informed the meeting participants on structural upgradation and beautification of the internal and external dimensions of the Bari Imam complex. It was explained that marble flooring work has already been completed and final finishing is underway.

Finance Minister directed the ICT and CDA management to ensure that entire structure, after completion, should have durability since it is a public place and merits attention to all structural and beautification details.

Finance minister chairs meeting to review 8th Session of Pak-Afghanistan Joint Economic Commission’s Decisions

Islamabad, February 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar today chaired a meeting composed of all relevant federal government organizations’ representatives to review latest implementation status over 49 decisions taken during Pak-Afghanistan 8th Session of Joint Economic Commissions’ deliberations.

The Minister noted that release of additional funding for Pakistan’s on-going projects in Afghanistan has already been announced by the Prime Minister and all GOP organizations needed to expedite implementation of ongoing projects in consideration of commitments earlier agreed between the Governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Minister further directed all the stakeholders to clearly draw a road map and time line agreed between the relevant counterparts of two governments, adding that all federal government organizations should ensure implementation of bilaterally agreed projects in Afghanistan expeditiously.

During the course of discussion, Secretary Economic Affairs Divisions briefed the Minister over the status of 49 decisions taken during 8th Pak-Afghanistan Joint Economic Commission held in 2012. Secretary EAD intimated that so far 15 decision items have been implemented and implementation on the remaining items stands sped up.

The Minister was briefed that the decisions taken during Pak-Afghanistan 8th Session JEC related to power and petroleum sector, highways and communications, planning and development, economy and reconstruction activities in Afghanistan.

The meeting reviewed latest update made available by various federal government ministries on the subjects pivoting around completion of Torkham-Jalalabad Carriageway, Chaman, Spin-Boldak railway line, enhancement in number of educational scholarships supporting Afghan students studies in various Pakistani Universities and Professional Colleges, besides CASA-1000MW power import transmission lines passing through Afghanistan and visa facilitation for both countries’ citizens/workers employed on development projects implementation in two countries.

CEOs of the mobile companies meet the advisory committee for spectrum auction

Islamabad, February 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): CEOs of the mobile companies operating in Pakistan met the Spectrum Auction Committee under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar at the Finance Ministry today.

The operators shared their views and gave valuable feedback regarding introduction of latest technologies in relation to forthcoming spectrum auction.

The committee informed the operators that Information Memorandum (IM) will be issued shortly. The IM is being prepared by international professional consultants keeping in view the objectives of promoting technological growth, fostering competition in the sector and getting the best value of the scarce national resource of spectrum.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mr. Zahid Hamid, Minister of State for Information Technology Ms. Anusha Rehman Khan and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of IT and PTA.

Memorandum of Understanding signed for setting up vocational training institutes

Islamabad, February 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education, Engr. Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman on Thursday signed an MoU with Ali Hazza and Company for setting up vocational training institutes.

The agreement was signed in collaboration with National Training Bureau with the aim of annual output training of 2200 trainees with confirmation of job abroad.

According to the agreement, the revenue of the project will be collected through the fee structure which will be paid by National Training Bureau in advance each year while 23 training courses will be offered including Auto CAD/3D Studio Max, auto electrician, fibre optics, mechanical engineering etc.

Pak President meets Chinese premier Li Keqiang in Beijing

Islamabad, February 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the deepening multifaceted strategic partnership between Pakistan and China heralds a new era of socio- economic progress and prosperity for the people of the two countries and indeed the entire region.

He emphasized the need for more concrete and consistent efforts on both side for early implementation of the mutually agreed projects, saying that enhanced connectivity between China and Pakistan is of great importance to expand economic and trade cooperation, promoting economic integration, and fostering economic development of the two countries.

The President said this during his meeting with Premier Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of Peoples, Beijing today. Press Secretary to the President said that the two leaders held wide ranging discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Those present during the meeting included Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms; Mr. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister, Punjab, Syed Tariq Fatemi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs/SAPM; Mr. Miftah Ismail, Special Assistant to Prime Minster and Chairman Bard of investment, Rana Sanaullah, Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Punjab, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China , Mr. Masood Khalid and Mr. Hassan Nawaz Tarar, Secretary Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms.

Welcoming President Hussain on his 1st state visit to China since assuming office, Premier Li said that Pakistan was an important country in the region and it has made significant contribution to peace, stability and development of the region and the world at large, adding that China highly values its time tested ties with Pakistan.

President Mamnoon said that Sino-Pak‘s all weather friendship is solidly anchored on convergence of strategic interests, high degree of mutual trust and are driven by an abiding interest in development and prosperity of each other as well as promotion of peace and stability in the region.

Recalling his visit to Pakistan last year, Premier Li said that China was committed to consolidate its traditional friendship with Pakistan and deepen the strategic cooperation between the two countries, adding that China will continue to firmly support Pakistan in its efforts to uphold independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and achieving national stability and development.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction at the development of China-Pakistan relations and agreed that the relationship had outgrown its bilateral dimension to acquire regional and global significance. The two sides agreed that, as all-weather strategic and cooperative partners, China and Pakistan would jointly strive for more friendly political relations, stronger economic bonds, deeper security cooperation and closer people-to-people contacts.

The two leaders urged for joint efforts to translate the high level of mutual trust and cooperation that exists at the political plane into practical cooperation that is result-oriented and deliver prosperity to the people of both countries.

Commenting on economic corridor, the two leaders urged for collective efforts on both side to ensure that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor starts to take practical shape soon and yields tangible benefits.

Highlighting investment opportunities in Pakistan, the President said that Pakistan offers huge potential for trade and investment in diverse areas especially energy and infrastructure and invited Chinese investors to invest in these sectors and avail the incentives being offered by the government for investment in Pakistan.

He assured that Chinese nationals working in Pakistan are like an asset to us and all out steps are being taken for their safety and protection, adding that we have up-graded security of those project sites where Chinese nationals are working.

Discussing regional situation, the two leaders agreed to continue working in close harmony and coordination on major regional and international matters as well as important regional forums like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Asia-Europe Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum.

President Mamnoon reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for one-China policy and said that Pakistan will continue to support China’s efforts in combating the three evils of terrorism, extremism and separatism.

Thanking the Chinese leadership for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation during stay in Beijing, the President congratulated Premier Li Keqiang for the Chinese lunar year and wished him a prosperous and a very Happy New Year – the year of the Horse.
