In their separate condolence messages to the bereaved family, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker paid rich tribute to the services of Haji Abdul Razzaq Yaqoob for the country and in the field of journalism. Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Metropolitan Commissioner addresses closing ceremony of Blind Cricket series match

Karachi, February 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): KMC Metropolitan Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner District East Samiuddin Siddiqui has said that cricket is very popular in Pakistan. People of our country like this sport very much. KMC and District Administration East are providing all possible facilities to promote this sport.

He said this while addressing a closing ceremony of the second One-Day Match of Blind Cricket Series played between Pakistan and India in National Stadium.

He said that Pakistani Blind Cricket Team paid a successful visit to India in previous days and won series of T-20 matches. We welcome Indian Team in Karachi and hope that this series comprising of three matches would end well and promote spirit of goodwill between both the countries.

He said in this connection District Administration would carry out all responsibilities properly and all players and other staff would be provided with all necessary facilities. He expressed hope that Karachi spectators would show enthusiasm on the occasion of this series and play their role to make this series successful.

Pakistani Team was given the target of 405 runs in today’s match whereas Pakistani Team made 364 runs and Indian Blind Cricket Team won the match by 41 runs. The player of Indian Team Venkadesh played successful inning of 121 runs and received “Man of the Match Award” from Samiuddin Siddiqui.

The Chairman of Pakistan Blind Cricket Council Syed Sultan Shah presented a shield to Chief Guest. In the closing ceremony of this match Assistant Commissioner Gulshan-e-Iqbal Kamal Hakeem, Assistant Commissioner Ferozabad Nazia Zaman, Director Sports Saddar Town Asif Azeem and others were also present. The last match of this series would be played on 23rd of February.

Terrorism, sabotage have no gender yet their repercussions are predominantly borne by women and children in face of forced migrations: National Assembly Speaker

Islamabad, February 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that democracy is the vanguard of the rights of the oppressed and strengthening democratic values and institutions in Pakistan would ensure upholding of rights of the marginalized and underprivileged segments of the society. He said this while talking to a group of Women Legislators from United Kingdom, Afghanistan and Pakistan who called on him in Parliament House, this evening.

The UK delegation was led by Baroness D’Souza, Lord Speaker of the House of Lords whereas; the Afghan delegation was led by Dr. Golalai Nur Safi, Member of Wolesi Jirga. Dr. Fehmida Mirza, former Speaker and incumbent Patron (WPC) and Mrs. Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Secretary General (WPC) were also present on the occasion.

He said that dialogue between parliamentarians of UK, Pakistan and Afghanistan will facilitate exchange of views and critical information, national and international collaboration as well as institutionalized gender concerns and legislation. The Speaker said that the parliamentarians across the borders can play a pro-active role for peace-building and conflict resolutions, as they are the harbingers of change in the social and political life of any nation.

The Speaker said that Terrorism and Sabotage have no gender yet their repercussions are predominantly borne by women and children in face of forced migrations, displacements and consequent vulnerability. He called upon the British parliamentarians to ensure re-devising the funding priorities of their government in these critical areas to the poorest of the poor of our societies which will not only help counter illiteracy and improve health indicators, but also facilitate the de-radicalization of this region.

Apprising the Parliamentarians, the Speaker said that a task force on MDGs has been constituted to have the firsthand information and state of socio-economic development with the stakeholders and provincial governments after the post 18th Amendment scenario. He said that the monitoring and evaluation systems of funds dispensation may also be critically scrutinized by the parliamentarians to expedite the pace of work and commitments in these areas.

The visiting Parliamentarians while acknowledging the current dialogue said that exchange of views and experiences had helped them to discuss the challenges, opportunities and issues within the region’s peculiar needs and concerns. They said that women in the region were the sufferers. They agreed for continuation of the dialogue for forging solutions for the issues confronting the women and children in the region.

Pakistan Cricket Board -PEPSI Cricket stars talent hunt Program under-16 to be held from 24-26 February

Lahore, February 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Trials for the year 2013-14 PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars Program of nationwide talent hunt program for young and upcoming players will be held in Lahore at three venues. The trials were postponed due to rain on 06-09 February, 2014. Trials have been rescheduled and would now be held from 24-26 February, 2014 at the following venues.

2 days open trials at below mentioned venues would be held under the supervision of regional Head Coaches and NCA Talent Hunt Officers, which will be followed by the age verification process to be conducted by NCA medical panel.

Players born on or after September 1, 1997 are eligible to appear for trials. Original Form B of NADRA is required for age verification and no other document in this regard would be accepted. Players clearing the age verification process will be shortlisted for final trials.

Chief of Army Staff visits Frontier Corps Headquarters

Rawalpindi, February 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif visited HQ FC KPK today and interacted with troops. Appreciating their spirit and high morale, COAS said that the entire nation acknowledged sacrifices rendered by them as part of national effort to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from Pakistan, and assured them that these sacrifices will not go waste.

“Let there be no doubt that Pakistan armed forces are battle hardened and fully capable to counter any internal or external threat posed to the integrity and sovereignty of our beloved country” the COAS emphasized.

Recounting security forces’ successes in various operations against terrorists, he lauded the efforts and determination of all troops and LEAs who cleared affected areas, with the help of local population and support of the entire nation.

“We are fully prepared to confront any challenge in future as well”, the COAS reaffirmed. Earlier on arrival at Peshawar, COAS was received by Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani, Corps Commander Peshawar and Major General Ghayur Mahmood, Inspector General Frontier Corps KPK.
