Ban on Muharram processions unjustified: Al-Moosvi

Srinagar, November 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior leader of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, has termed the continued ban on Muharram processions in the territory as unjustified. Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the puppet authorities had imposed a ban on the Muharram processions since 1990 and the action was tantamount to interference in religious matters of the Muslims.

He said that on one hand, the puppet authorities facilitated the conducting of Amarnath Yatra, and on the other, they did not allow the people of the territory to perform their religious obligations. He said that this action showed the dual standard of the puppet administration.

The APHC leader strongly denounced the use of brute force on the mourners in Srinagar yesterday.

Union of Small and Medium Enterprises appreciates cut in petroleum prices

Karachi, November 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) thanked prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif for substantial cut in petroleum prices and appreciated the positive step taken by his government for the benefit of the SME sector. President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver thanked the PM on behalf of the majority sector and said this will definitely reduce the cost of logistics and reflect well on cost of production.

He urged the PM to now focus on modernizing agriculture and facilitate the SME farmers to improve farm efficiency and productivity by reducing duties on farm inputs and agricultural equipments. He said agriculture is the backbone of the economy and the primary sector which is the majority sector. The primary sector deserves the best attention of the policy makers. There is urgent need for the promotion of the primary sector on modern lines.

He recommended financial assistance for the primary sector to free them from the clutches of the money lenders who squeeze the SME farmers and leave them with negligible income from farm produce. Thaver emphasized the need for the uplift of the primary sector and explained that the primary sector is the sector that produces all raw material for the secondary sector.

The secondary sector depends on the primary sector as the source of supplies and adds value to the chain. The services sector also derives income from basic supplies from the primary sector. It is therefore very important that the primary sector is promoted and developed as a strong resource. UNISAME had recommended to the planning ministry to promote and develope the primary sector and the Vision 2025 has included the sector as the basis for growth.

Warid supporting Think Pink campaign with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center

Lahore, November 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): Being a responsible corporate entity, Warid Telecom has always shown strong dedication towards the wellbeing of society. In-line with its Corporate Responsibility program, for many years Warid is supporting Think Pink campaign with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center.

With numerous awareness sessions conducted by SKMT nationwide, the month long campaign covered 20 cities, directly reached 30,000 females with more than 80 sessions in colleges, universities, hospitals and corporate offices throughout Pakistan. Warid Telecom not only helped in creating awareness but also collected millions of funds for cancer patients. Warid female staff members marked the day by wearing pink butterflies and committed to voluntarily spread the Think Pink message.

Speaking on the collaborative effort between Warid and Shaukat Khanum Dr. Faisal Sultan, CEO Shaukat Khanum said: “Warid has been a constant support to this Breast Cancer cause by creating awareness and accumulating funds for the poor people who don’t have the finances to fund their treatment. Our partnership has helped us spread the Think Pink message more vastly. We are thankful to Warid for their consistent support. Around 70% of our donations come from such responsible organizations and individual support. Other corporations should use Warid as a benchmark and empower their CSR strategy and role for social welfare.”

Pakistan unfortunately has the highest rate of breast cancer for any Asian population in the world. It is the most frequent malignancy in women, where it accounts for 38.5pc of all female cancers. About half (43.7pc) of all breast cancers are locally advanced accounting to 40,000 deaths per year whereas limited information on breast cancer is available in Pakistan and cases of breast cancer are reported at a very advanced stage.

Battling cancer is one of the most devastating experiences for a woman and her family. At Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, breast cancer continues to be the highest malignancy reported and is currently being treated over the years. Unfortunately, due to the lack of adequate healthcare facilities in Pakistan, this treatable disease is usually detected at advance stages when nothing can turn the course of the disease.

Doing its part earnestly by searching new and creative ways to help local community, Warid Telecom continues its mission to support Think Pink, SKMCH and RC campaign. As part of its emergency response program, there are a number of other recent corporate social efforts that Warid Telecom and its employees have made to support fellow Pakistani citizens in their time of distress. Company and its employees financially supported the IDPs of ongoing army operation and the recent flood victims in Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Army.
