Pakistan condemns us drone strike in North Waziristan

Islamabad, May 18, 2015 (PPI-OT): A drone strike on May 16, 2015 resulted in a number of casualties in the Mana area of North Waziristan Agency.

We condemn such strikes which are a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. These generate distrust among the local populace at a time when Operation Zarb e Azab is moving ahead decisively and the focus of the Government is shifting towards rehabilitation of the civilian population. We reiterate our call for a cessation of such strikes.

Trauma Centre in Civil Hospital Karachi will be completed till 4th June: Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar

Karachi, May 18, 2015 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said under construction Trauma Centre in Civil Hospital Karachi will be completed till 4th June and after completion it will cater the needs of not only Karachi but other cities of Sindh. This he said while talking to mediamen visiting Civil Hospital Karachi on Monday. He expressed his displeasure over slow work pace at Trauma Centre.

Besides this, while addressing as a chief guest in Symposium on Radiation Hazards and Protection organized by Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Committee (NSRC), Civil Hospital Karachi, he said that even in industrial countries, most radiation exposure linked to civilization is from medical diagnosis and they felt that the medical radiation exposure of the general population and relevant reference groups should be regularly determined.

He added, ‘Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Committee has been formed under the supervision of medical superintendent realizing the fact that there is growing use of radiation in medical technology for diagnosis and Therapic purpose.

Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that the purpose of formation of Committee should be to encourage and promote the active involvement of employers and workers’ organization in the development of international standards on occupational radiation protection. Professor Saeed Qureshi MSCHK, Professor Khalida Soomro and Professor Saba Sohail also addressed to the symposium.

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry urges government to take immediate measures to restore supply of salt as its shortage is hitting industrial sector hard

Lahore, May 18, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the government to take immediate measures to restore the supply of salt as its shortage is hitting the industrial sector hard.

In a statement issued here, the LCCI Vice President Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi said that if the Punjab government does not restore supply of salt, the chemical and many affiliated industries will be closed and thousands workers will lost their jobs.

He said licenses of the explosive material producers were cancelled soon after the Peshawar school incident, resulting in halting the supply to mines and mineral organizations.

Syed Mahmood Ghaanavi said that the Punjab Mineral Development Corporation has also stopped the supply of salt that is the basic ingredient of the chemical industry and because of non-supply of salt, the chemical, textile, soap and ghee industries, power plants and water treatment plants could shut down any time from now.

He urged the government and district governments and administration to immediately issue no-objection certificate before the industrial sector suffered loss of millions of rupees leave thousands of workers jobless.
