1000 more digital franchise post offices to be opened by end of this month

Ministry of Communications and Postal Services has finalized all arrangements to open one thousand more Digital Franchise Post Offices across the country by end of this month.

In a statement, the Ministry’s Spokesperson said Pakistan Post has launched digital franchise post offices across the country under public-private partnership.

Under the project 120 new digital franchise post offices have already been opened.

The spokesman said Pakistan Post has so far received applications for 20,000 franchise post offices.

Smart lockdown imposed in 13 areas of Lahore

Punjab government imposed smart lockdown in thirteen areas of Lahore today (Saturday), to control the spread of coronavirus.

Spokesperson of Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, said the smart lockdown has been imposed in the areas where excessive coronavirus cases were reported.

All shopping malls, restaurants, private and government offices will remain closed during the lockdown in these areas.

In case of any urgent need, only one person of the family could use one vehicle in these areas while all kinds of gatherings and meetings would be banned.

Balochistan govt taking steps for strengthening 11 district HQ hospitals

Balochistan government is taking steps for strengthening the eleven District Headquarters Hospitals of the province under a phase wise project.

The official sources of the Provincial Health Department told Radio Pakistan Quetta correspondent that the government has allocated fifty million rupees for each hospital and later these hospitals will be declared as Teaching Hospitals.

The sources further said that thirty-bed isolation and High Dependency Unit equipped with ventilators and other necessary facilities have been established for COVID-19 patients at Bolan Medical Complex Hospital in Quetta.

Covid claims 17 more lives, infects 1624 others

Karachi, December 12, 2020 (PPI-OT): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that 17 more patients died, lifting the death toll to 3149 and 1624 new cases emerged when 13393 tests were conducted, raising the tally to 194359.

In a statement issued here from CM House on Saturday, he said 17 more patients lost their lives lifting the death toll to 3149 that constituted 1.6 percent death rate.

The CM said 13393 samples were tested which diagnosed 1624 cases that constituted 12.1 percent. He added that so far 2137976 tests have been conducted against which 194359 cases were detected, of them 86 percent are 166492 patients recovered, including 1026 overnight.

Mr Shah said that currently 24718 patients were under treatment, of them 23841 were in home isolation, 16 at isolation centers and 861 at different hospitals. He added that the condition of 769 patients was stated to be critical including 90 shifted to ventilators.

According to Murad Ali Shah, out of 1624 new cases, 1289 have been detected from Karachi; 448 from South, 400 East, 174 central, 122 Malir, 104 Korangi, and West 41. Sanghar has 51 cases, Hyderabad 47, Dadu 27, Ghotki 26, Badin and Jamshoro 13 each, Larkana 11, Matiari nine, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur and Kambhar eight each, Umerkot and Khairpur six each, Naushehroferoze and Sukkur four each, Thatta and Tandoalahyar 3 each, Tando Muhmmad Khan and Kashmore one each.

The Chief Minister urged people of the province to abide by the SOPs issued by the government.

PIA cancels ATR aircraft acquired on expensive Lease arrangement

Karachi, December 12, 2020 (PPI-OT): PIA cancels ATR aircraft acquired on expensive Lease arrangement. PIA spokesman said on Saturday.

PIA ATR-72 aircraft were high on operational cost and expected Market value resultantly making the flight operations non profitable. These aircraft were acquired on lease in the year 2015 and were higher than the present market price but due to the long-term agreement enforced, PIA was unable to return them earlier.

On the instructions of CEO PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik, PIA management reviewed the lease agreement thoroughly and benefited from a clause in the lease agreement during Covid flights suspension.

The first ATR-72 aircraft returned having registration number APBKY departed from Karachi for Johannesburg, South Africa. while 03 other ATR72 will also be returned.

CEO PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik while congratulating PIA team on successful negotiations which made possible the return of these aircraft said that it was not only a difficult decision at this crucial time but unavoidable as well.

CEO PIA said that the airline will keep operating other ATR aircraft which make the operations viable on short routes. Meanwhile under the supervision of Government of Pakistan, PIA will soon acquire new aircraft in its fleet which will improve the airline’s product and service considerably . New aircraft and improved service was expected since long from our passengers and will be soon fulfilled soon said CEO PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik.

Government ready to hold dialogue with opposition on any issue except accountability: Shafqat

Islamabad, December 12, 2020 (PPI-OT): Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood has said the government is ready to hold dialogue with opposition on every important issue but it would not make any compromise on the matter of accountability of the corrupt. Talking to a private TV channel, he said the opposition is intentionally pushing people’s lives in danger by holding public gatherings during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic which is spreading in the country rapidly.

The Minister said due to the efforts of Prime Minister Imran Khan and his team all the sectors are showing positive indicators and inflation is on declining.

Government ready to talk with opposition on any issue, except NRO, corruption: Aviation Minister

Islamabad, December 12, 2020 (PPI-OT): Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan says the government is ready to hold talks with the opposition on any issue, except NRO or corruption cases. Talking to media in Rawalpindi today, he said the opposition should sit with the government to reach consensus on national and international issues such as Covid-19, threat from India, Kashmir issue, electoral reforms, and economic problems. The Minister said the government’s desire for negotiations with the opposition should not be taken as its weakness.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan said holding public gatherings is a right of the opposition parties, but it could lead to faster spread of the pandemic. He said if the Prime Minister has asked the opposition to suspend its public gatherings for two to three months; it is because of the public interest in view of the Coronavirus pandemic.
