Srinagar, December 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Chairman of International Forum for Justice and Human Rights, Mohammad Ahsan Untoo and Muslim Khawateen Markaz Chairperson, Yasmeen Raja, today, visited Pampore, Pulwama, and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family of Hurriyat activist, Murawat Hussain on the sad demise of his mother.

Shabbir Ahmed Dar speaking on the occasion said that the deceased woman always mobilized women to take part in freedom processions. He said, the death of the noble lady is a great loss to freedom movement and the resistance camp has lost a devoted and true sympathizer. The leaders also paid glowing tributes to Mujahid Zaheer Abbas Lone who was martyred by Indian troops recently.

Srinagar, December 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Front (KFF) has said that Indian brutalities cannot force the Kashmiris to give up their just struggle for securing their right to self-determination. The KFF Vice Chairman, Muhammad Abdullah Wani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Indian state terrorism had failed to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle in the past and would meet the same fate in future as well.

He said that the occupation authorities arrested scores of youth ahead of the so-called elections of District Development Council in the territory. He said that Indian police arrested many people including 22 KFF activists from various areas of Pulwama and lodged them in different police stations. He demanded immediate release of the detainees. The KFF leader appealed to the international community to play role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions to save the Kashmiris from Indian atrocities.

Srinagar, December 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the High Court has quashed the illegal detention orders issued under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), against five persons. The detention order under PSA against Khalid Hussain Malik was quashed by the High Court after the occupation authorities admitted that the detention order was passed on 18 March 2018, but was executed on 4 August 2019, while the FIRs against Malik were registered in 2017.

The court said that the gap between the issuing of the PSA detention order and its execution was almost a year and six months, which could not be sustained in the eyes of law. The court said that in the absence of proper explanation for why a period of 15 months elapsed after issuing the order of detention, the same had to be set aside.

In case of Farooq Ahmad Malik, the court recorded that the petitioner was already in custody and this fact was well known to the detaining authority and despite that, the detention order dated 4 July 2019 was executed after more than three months of its issuance, on 21 October 2019, which was violation of the law.

In the cases of Asif Ahmad Malik, Mohammad Yousuf Butt and Saboor-ul-Haq Malla, the court quashed the detention orders on the grounds that the detenues were not supplied with relevant material to make an effective representation, which is their constitutional right.

Srinagar, December 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) Chairman, Abdul Qayoom Wani, has said that continued suspension of high-speed internet service has badly affected the education, tourism, and commerce sectors in the territory.

Abdul Qayoom Wani in a statement issued in Srinagar said the occupation authorities had restored the 4G services in two districts – Ganderbal and Udhampur – on a trial basis in August this year, more than a year after they were suspended. He said that officials had stated that restoration of high speed internet in other districts would be done. However, he said, so far, no substantial steps had been taken in this regard and education, commerce and tourism sectors had suffered immensely while access to information and work culture of media professionals had also been affected severely.

Qayoom Wani said that during COVID-19, online classes were being held on 2G in IIOJK but it proved almost a failure and affected the education of the students badly. He said online job industry had also been worst hit.

Jammu, December 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): As entire Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is in the grip of severe cold even ahead of Chilai Kalan, the 40-day period of harshest winter in the territory, Jammu on Friday witnessed the coldest day in the last 37 years. Weather expert at University of Agricultural Science and Technology Jammu, Dr Mohinder Singh, told media that the day temperature in Jammu on Friday was the coldest in 37 years. “We have recorded 11.8 degree Celsius as maximum temperature,” he said.

Dr Singh said, the severe cold weather conditions have come a week before in Jammu and it has affected normal life and agricultural activities. “The night temperature has also declined unexpectedly. The minimum temperature was 1.6 degree Celsius in Jammu and it was coldest in comparison to several years. The night temperature drops in the month of December, but this time it has happened much earlier,” he said.

Meanwhile, all parts of IIOJK continued to reel under freezing night temperature, the meteorological department said. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg minus 10.6 degrees Celsius and Pahalgam minus 9.2 degrees Celsius, MeT officials said. They said Qazigund – the gateway town to the Valley – recorded the minimum temperature of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara, in the north, registered a low of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius and Kokernag, in the south, minus 5.4 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, hundreds of passenger vehicles and trucks remain stranded at Drass and other areas for last ten days due to the closure of Srinagar-Kargil highway owing to snowfall and avalanches. The stranded passengers complained that they are facing immense hardships due to freezing temperatures and non-availability of heating arrangements and food.

Islamabad, December 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Imran Khan launched Sehat Sahulat Programme for Azad Jammu and Kashmir at a ceremony in Islamabad. Speaking on the occasion, he said this programme will provide health insurance to 1.2 million families in the territory and they can get medical treatment from three hundred and fifty health facilities across Pakistan.

The Prime Minister said the PTI government had started this project from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the process has now been started to extend the facility to every household. In Punjab, six million families have been provided with the health cards and the provincial government there is striving to provide this facility to the entire population by the end of next year.

Imran Khan said the launch of this program in Azad Kashmir will also send a message across the LOC where a fascist and oppressive regime is oppressing the rights of people that we care for our people. The Prime Minister said given the economic constraints, launching this universal health coverage programme was a courageous decision by the government. He said this programme is in line with the principles of State of Madina. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment to transform Pakistan into a welfare state as per the vision of founding fathers.

United Nations, December 19, 2020 (PPI-OT): The United Nations has confirmed that a vehicle of the U.N. Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) was hit by an “unidentified object” near Rawalakot on the Pakistani side of Line of Control (LoC) in disputed Kashmir region, but the occupants were not injured.

“The Mission is currently investigating the incident,” Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said in response to a question from Pakistani media at the regular briefing in New York. He said the incident occurred when UNMOGIP military observers were conducting routine monitoring activities near Rawalakot as part of the Mission’s mandate to observe and report on ceasefire violations at LOC in Jammu and Kashmir.

“UNMOGIP personnel and the driver were not harmed but the vehicle sustained some damage,” the spokesman said. In Islamabad, the Foreign office said that Indian troops “specifically targeted” the UN vehicle carrying two UNMOGIP officers from across the Line of Control, in what was termed a “new low” in their conduct.

The UNMOGIP officers were on their way to Polas village to meet with the victims of Indian ceasefire violations when they came under fire, the foreign office said. The officers were immediately evacuated by the Pakistan Army and brought back to the UNMOGIP field station in Rawalakot. The incident happened as Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told a press conference in Abu Dhabi that he had credible information that India was planning a ‘surgical strike’ against Pakistan to divert attention from its internal affairs.
