Committee constituted to review upcoming census process, data collection

Islamabad, December 30, 2020 (PPI-OT):Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has constituted a five-member committee headed by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan to review the census process, data collection and field operation methodologies used for Census 2017.

The Committee will recommend the modern methodologies being adopted for censuses in region and globe for conduct of upcoming census. It will ensure that the next census is not only accurate but also inspires confidence amongst all stakeholders that it is a true reflection of population in all regions of the country.

Pakistan, Uzbekistan discuss cargo train service through Afghanistan

Islamabad, December 30, 2020 (PPI-OT):A delegation of Uzbekistan led by Minister for Transport Makhamov Ilkhom called on Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati in Islamabad. During the meeting, Trans-Afghan Rail Project came under discussion besides cargo train service and other important issues.

Under this project, Pakistan and Uzbekistan will be connected by rail link through Afghanistan. The other Central Asian Republics including Tajikistan and Turkmenistan will also be able to join the proposed rail link.

Pakistan, Djibouti want to boost cooperation in diverse areas: President

Islamabad, December 30, 2020 (PPI-OT):Pakistan and Djibouti have reiterated their desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of commerce, culture and defense. This was discussed at a meeting between President Dr Arif Alvi and the visiting Djibouti parliamentary delegation, led by President of National Parliament of Djibouti and acting-Chairman of African Union Parliament, Mr. Mohamed Ali Houmed, in Islamabad today (Wednesday).

While welcoming the delegation, the President said Pakistan wants to further improve defense and economic ties with Djibouti for mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries. He appreciated the visit of Parliamentary delegation and expressed the hope that it would further strengthen the existing foundation of strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

He informed that Pakistan highly values its ties with Djibouti and has decided to open its embassy there and resident diplomatic missions in other African countries. The President sought the support of the Government of Djibouti to expeditiously process and clear Pakistani goods at Djibouti port meant for Ethiopia and other destinations in the Horn of Africa.

The President also highlighted the atrocities and human rights violations being committed by India against the Muslim population in the Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the need for a unified call from international community to put pressure on India to stop human rights violations and grant Kashmiris their right to self-determination as promised under the UN Security Council resolutions.

President of National Parliament of Djibouti underscored the need for expanding bilateral cooperation in every sphere, including culture, trade and defense. He said Gwadar and Djibouti ports would help boost trade between the two brotherly countries. Both sides emphasized the need for parliamentary, cultural and defense exchanges which would help in bringing the two countries further closer.

We believe this attack was not just condemnable as an act of senseless violence and terrorism, it was also reprehensible as an attempt to undermine the recent efforts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and its positive results, that aimed at fostering enhanced peace and security in Yemen. Pakistan urges the international community to ensure respect for territorial integrity of Yemen and to support efforts aimed at promoting peace and security in the country.

Afghan Minister for Industry and Commerce calls on Prime Minister Imran Khan

Islamabad, December 30, 2020 (PPI-OT):The Prime Minister, while highlighting the close fraternal ties between the two countries, reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support to peace and stability in Afghanistan. Reiterating his conviction that there was no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a negotiated political settlement. The Prime Minister also stressed the need for all sides to take measures for reduction of violence leading to ceasefire. The Prime Minister added that peace in Afghanistan would be beneficial for the entire region by enhancing regional connectivity and providing new opportunities for economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister remarked that Pakistan and Afghanistan have untapped economic synergies and complementarities, which could be best realized through cooperation in the economic and trade sphere. The Prime Minister mentioned the Trans-Afghan railway line project, “Mazar-e-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar,” and highlighted Pakistan’s support to Uzbekistan’s efforts to secure financing for the project. In this regard, he mentioned that he had signed Joint Appeal Letter addressed to the Heads of various International Financial Institutions (IFIs) by Heads of State/Government of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Afghan Commerce Minister conveyed the greetings of President Ashraf Ghani and highlighted the progress made on matters related to transit and bilateral trade. He appreciated the positive role played by Pakistan in facilitating the Afghan peace process and affirmed Afghanistan’s desire for enhanced trade and economic ties between the two countries. Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood, Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment also attended the meeting. The Afghan delegation led by Mr. Nisar Ahmed Ghoryani is on a five-day visit to Pakistan from 27-31 December 2020 for the 8th meeting of Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Coordination Authority (APTTCA).

Chairman CPEC Authority calls on IT Minister Syed Amin ul Haque

Islamabad, December 30, 2020 (PPI-OT):Chairman China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Lt Gen (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa called on Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque on Wednesday. The Federal Minister for IT Syed Amin Ul Haque welcomed the Chairman CPEC Authority in his office and during meeting discussion held regarding CPEC projects. Federal Secretary Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Shoaib Ahmad Siddique was also present on the occasion.

Federal Minister for IT Syed Amin Ul Haque said that Ministry of IT and Telecommunication will fully cooperate with CPEC Authority on all relevant CPEC projects. All the steps taken for the prosperity of the country will be fully supported, he added. He said that there was great opportunities of foreign investment in rapidly growing IT industry of Pakistan. Syed Amin Ul Haque said that like CPEC, revolutionary steps in IT and Telecommunication sector will prove effective for boosting country’s economy.

He said IT industry of Pakistan was rapidly growing and creating job opportunities. Chairman CPEC Authority Lt Gen (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa said that Chinese companies are taking keen interest in IT and fibre optic projects. He said Ministry of IT’s role is prominent in different CPEC projects. He also lauded the establishment of IT Park in Gilgit Baltistan (GB).Earlier, Secretary IT apprised the Chairman CPEC about projects of Ministry of IT.
