Workers’ Remittances in January 2023

Karachi, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Workers’ remittances recorded an inflow of US$1.9 billion during Jan 23.

During Jan 23, remittances decreased by 9.9 percent on m/m and 13.1 percent on y/y basis.

With cumulative inflow of US$ 16 billion during first seven months of FY23, the remittances decreased by 11 percent compared to the same period last year.

Remittances inflows during Jan 23 were mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia ($407.6 million), United Arab Emirates ($269.2 million), United Kingdom ($330.4 million) and United States of America ($213.9 million).

Governor Sindh arrived at the residence of Former President General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf 

Karachi, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori reached the residence of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and expressed his condolences to Begum Syeba Musharraf and her son Bilal Musharraf. Governor Sindh prayed for the elevation of former President Pervez Musharraf and patience for his family.

Governor Sindh said that General Musharraf’s services for the development of the country will always be remembered, his efforts to build the infrastructure of Shahr Quaid are worthy of praise. Kamran Khan Tisvi said that first of all he had unwavering faith in the slogan of Pakistan and he carried this slogan till his last breath. Governor Sindh said that he actively participated in the defense of Pakistan on Indian and other foreign television channels.

SECP warns public to avoid unauthorized lending apps 

Islamabad, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has warned the public about falling prey to unauthorized lending apps, namely “MoneyBox” and “MoneyClub.” The SECP has observed that the apps are using the names of licensed Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs) to gain public confidence in offering lending services without any regulatory approval.

SECP has not granted any permission to its licensed NBFCs, QistBazaar (Pvt) Limited and QistPay BNPL (Private) Limited, to launch the apps namely “MoneyBox” and “MoneyClub,” respectively. This unauthorized activity poses a serious threat to the public, as these apps have been operating without regulatory approval.

The SECP maintains a publicly available list of licensed NBFCs and digital lending apps that have the SECP’s permission to offer lending services. The public is encouraged to verify the regulatory status of any NBFC and its authorized app before transacting any business with a lending entity.

The SECP is acting to protect consumers and promote fairness and transparency in the financial services industry. It is notifying law enforcement agencies to take legal action against the operators of these apps. The SECP advises the public to only use authorized apps offered by entities licensed to operate in Pakistan.

Complaints or evidence against companies involved in unauthorized activities and illegal lending can be sent to complainats@secp.gov.pk.

NA Speaker Underscores Women Empowerment Key to Bright and Prosperous Future 

Islamabad, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Honourable Raja Pervez Ashraf, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan has said that empowering women in leadership roles is not only a matter of fairness and justice, it is also a matter of urgency and necessity. Women bring unique perspectives and skills to the table, and their full participation in leadership positions is crucial for the progress and development of our country.

He made these remarks, today, while, addressing the National Convention of Women Parliamentarians at the Pakistan National Council of Arts. The event was organized by the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the National Assembly and was attended by esteemed parliamentarians, government dignitaries, and members of the civil society from all over the country.

Mr. Pervez underscored that it is our responsibility to create a more inclusive and equitable society, where women have equal opportunities and the support they need to succeed in leadership positions. Let us continue to work together to make this vision a reality, for the benefit of all our citizens in line with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who was a true leader of people and epitome of: women empowerment; hope of the hopeless; and a motivation to continue moving forward despite all odds and hardships.

The Speaker also praised the efforts of Ms. Shahida Rehmani, Secretary of WPC, who has been dedicated towards promoting women rights and highlighting their contributions on national and international forums. He said, “Ms. Rehmani’s tireless efforts to advance the cause of women is an inspiration to us all. Her dedication to ensuring that women’s voices are heard and their contributions recognized is truly commendable, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude for her leadership.”

Ms. Rehmani echoed the sentiment expressed by the Speaker, adding, “Women have long been underrepresented in leadership positions, and it is imperative that we continue our efforts to change that. We must work together to break down the barriers that prevent women from reaching their full potential in all spheres of life, including politics and governance.”

The convention provided a platform for discussions and exchanges of ideas on how best to support and empower women in leadership roles, and the Speaker and Ms. Rehmani expressed their hope that the outcomes of the event would lead to concrete action towards that end.

The Constitution of Pakistan Guarantees the Protection of the Rights of the Citizens in the country: Speaker National Assembly

Islamabad, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the Constitution of Pakistan is the real guarantor of our freedom. He said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for democracy, the supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law in the country. He said that the year 2023 marks the Golden Jubilee year of the Constitution. He said that the National Assembly Secretariat would organize various programs to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution in a grand manner.

In this regard, events would be organized in schools, colleges and universities across the country. He expressed these views while addressing the participants of the Ceremony to commemorate the 50 years of unsung heroes of democracy in Pakistan held in the front lawn of the Parliament House. Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party/Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former Prime Minister/Senator Yusuf Raza Gilani, former Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani, Former Senator Farhatullah Babar, members of the National Assembly and Senate and members of the Provincial Assembly, civil society and media representatives were present on the occasion.

The Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the purpose of celebrating the Golden Jubilee is to make our youth aware of the sacrifices made for democracy and the Constitution. He further said that honourable Speakers and presiding officers would also be invited to the Golden Jubilee celebrations in the Parliament House.

Speaker said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave a unified constitution to this country and former President Asif Ali Zardari restored Pakistan to its original state and returned powers to Parliament. He said that the country is proud of the outstanding work done by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as Foreign Minister.

Party Chairman PPP/Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari while addressing the opening ceremony of the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan said that the Pakistan People’s Party has decided to celebrate the year 2023 as the year of the Golden Jubilee. He said that the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 allowed every citizen to nominate their representative and the powerful class was forced to seek votes from the common man. He said that the 1973 constitution gave representation to all the classes living in the country and gave rights to all the provinces.

He said that we can overcome our problems by ensuring the implementation of the constitution. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party has decided to form a committee in which all political parties will be invited. The committee will look into the problems being faced by the country and will find solutions. He congratulated the Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf and Senator Mian Raza Rabbani for the successful organization of this event and appreciated their efforts in this regard.

Former Prime Minister and Senator Syed Yusuf Raza Ali Gilani and former Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani also paid rich tribute to the unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives for the supremacy of the Constitution of Pakistan. They said that the unified constitution of 1973 has given protection to the federation. They said that former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave a unified constitution to the country, which credit goes to former President Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari for restoring it to its original form. They said that with the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law, the problems faced by the country can be solved and it can be put on the path of development.

NA Speaker pays tribute to Women on National Women’s Day

Islamabad, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf, in his message on the occasion of the National Woman’s Day, has said “this day holds a great significance in the annals of history of Pakistan owing to undeterred struggle of Pakistani women for democracy in the face of dictatorship”.

Raja Pervez Ashraf while paying rich tribute to the women remarked “they are a metaphor of unparalleled bravery, great talent and indomitable courage”. He further said “Madar-e-Millat Ms Fatima Jinnah, Madar-e-Jamhooriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto are role models for the world as they stood strong and had shown great commitment in the testing and difficult times.

The Speaker also emphasized that the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equality, representation, protection and equal opportunities for development of the women of Pakistan and assured that the parliament would continue to make all out efforts to ensure full implementation of these constitutional rights.

Pakistan, US renew resolve to enhance bilateral maritime, defense cooperation 

Islamabad, February 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Pakistan and the United States have renewed the resolve to enhance their bilateral maritime and defence cooperation. The resolve was expressed during meeting of Ambassador of the United States to Pakistan Donald Blome with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi in Karachi today during the ongoing multinational exercise AMAN-23. During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional maritime security and bilateral collaboration were discussed.
