United States Advances Women’s Inclusion in Pakistani Policing

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): The U.S. Embassy in Pakistan hosted the National Women Police Conference today at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. Funded by the U.S. government, the conference united key stakeholders in policing and women’s rights under the theme of “Inspire, Empower, and Transform.”

The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and the Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) helped organize the conference. During his remarks, U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome emphasized the importance of women’s inclusion in policing and the need for innovative policies to ensure equal access to justice.

Highlighting the role of women in policing and acknowledging the challenges they face in their line of work, he commended the organizers and attendees for their efforts in promoting women’s rights and empowerment, expressing his hope that the conference would lead to positive outcomes and tangible results.

Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar also affirmed the Pakistani government’s commitment to ensuring that everyone in Pakistan has access to justice and that women are safe. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between government agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the country.

The National Women Police Conference 2023 is part of a broader effort to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Pakistan. Through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, the U.S. government has been working closely with the Government of Pakistan and civil society partners to support initiatives that promote women’s rights and access to justice.

The conference provided an important platform to discuss and share best practices, challenges, and opportunities for women’s inclusion in policing, ultimately improving access to justice for all in Pakistan.

Prime Minister announces distribution of free flour among deserving families during Ramazan

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says it is first time in history of country that a relief package has been prepared for provision of free flour to deserving people in Ramazan-ul-Mubarak. Chairing a review meeting in Lahore on Monday for provision of free flour under Ramazan Package, he said free flour will be distributed to 15.8 million families of Punjab in Ramazan-ul-Mubarak. He said that distribution of free flour will be made from 25th Shaban to 25th Ramazan.

He said that distribution of flour will be done through eighty-five hundred utility stores besides establishing twenty thousand points for convenience of the general public. He said eligibility for free flour can be checked through SMS. He said that no compromise will be made on the quality of free flour and modern technology will be utilized for prevention of theft of flour.

Dispatch of a Self-Defense Force aircraft to relief activities in response to the damages caused by the earthquake in south-eastern Turkey, in coordination with NATO

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): On March 13th, the Government of Japan decided anew to dispatch a Self-Defense Forces (SDF) aircraft in response to the damages caused by the earthquake in south-eastern Turkey, based on the Law Concerning Dispatch of the Japan Disaster Relief Team. To be specific, one SDF aircraft is scheduled to depart for Pakistan, as early as 14th, to transport emergency relief supplies, including tents located in Pakistan, to Turkey.

This is the first international emergency relief operation to be carried out in cooperation with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), upon the request from the Government of Turkey, a member of NATO, and NATO, to Japan, its global partner, to cooperate in the transportation of relief supplies by a SDF aircraft. Japan is determined to continue to provide necessary assistance in cooperation with NATO and international organizations, utilizing its experience and knowledge as an earthquake-prone country.

Government taking steps to strengthen employees’ rights: Mandokhail

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): Chairman Special Committee on Affected Employees Prof. Dr Qadir Khan Mandokhail says the coalition government is taking steps to strengthen and protect rights of employees working in different government departments.

Speaking to a private news channel, he said inflation had increased manifold, poverty and unemployment had reached unprecedented high levels during the last four years. Replying to a question, he said PPP is always ready for elections but there is a need to work collectively for welfare of state instead of creating anarchy in the country.

He also urged all political parties to rise above personal agendas for larger interest of common man. Qadir Khan Mandokhail said the PTI-led government did not fulfil promises made with government employees.

Youth in Pakistan; sure recipe for bright future of country says MNA/SAPM Romina Khursheed Alam

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): SAPM/MNA Ms Romina Khursheed Alam stressed on youth to keep struggling for making and achieving high goals which can lead the country on the path of progress and development. She also expressed her hope that youth of the country would continue to play proactive role for development of democracy and progress of country.

She also emphasized on Youth to keep themselves abreast about fundamentals of Constitution and basic functions of parliaments. She also advised youth not to be victim of disinformation and propaganda. She also said that Pakistani parliament is green Parliament, it is one of fourth which has Children Cacus in parliament and only Parliament which has parliamentary task force on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She expressed these views while addressing as Chief guest at seminar on Commonwealth Day, 2023 “Forgoing a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future” in Islamabad today.

MNA / Convener Parliamentary Cacus on Child Rights Mehnaz Akbar Aziz said that peace in society is interlinked with proactive role of Youth in every social affair. She also said that young generation should realize about importance of clarity of objectives and should work hard to achieve these goals.

While emphasizing the importance of working for nation, she said that youth in Pakistan has all the potential to change the fate of nation. On the occasion, Mr. Syed Shamoon Hashmi Additional Secretary (SI) also addressed the participants.

He said, “youth need to realise their potential and serve nation wholeheartedly.” He also said that youth in Pakistan must dissociate themselves from propaganda and war of disinformation. He also said that the role of academia and Intelligentia is pivotal for progress of country. The seminar was attended by large number of Intelligentia and students from across the country.

PM accords in-principle approval to set price of cotton at Rs8500 per 40kg for this year

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has accorded in-principle approval to set the price of cotton at 8500 rupees per 40 kilogram for this year. The approval was granted during a review meeting of the Agricultural Task Force that was held in Islamabad on Monday with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in the chair. During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on increasing the production of cotton and setting its support price.

The meeting was informed that last year there was a substantial reduction in cotton production due to floods, rains, shortage of canal water and fertilizer crisis. The total production of cotton this year is estimated at 12.77 million bales, while not only the area under cotton cultivation but also the yield per acre is expected to increase significantly. The per acre coast of cotton and its comparison with other crops was also presented to the meeting.

The Prime Minister directed to submit the support price of cotton to the Economic Coordination Committee for approval at the earliest. He said the provincial governments should ensure the provision of fixed price of cotton to the farmers. He also directed the federal government to provide all possible assistance to the provincial governments to implement the fixed support price.

The Prime Minister said the government is taking steps on priority basis to increase the per acre production of cotton. For this purpose, he directed the Ministry of National Food Security to speedily complete its work in formulating proposals to increase the per acre yield of cotton.

Islamabad, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): The federal government has made public the 22-year record of Toshakhana gifts, on a government website. The record, comprising 446 pages, includes gifts received in Toshakhana from the year 2002 to 2023. Names of former Presidents, Prime Ministers, Federal Ministers, and government officers have been mentioned in the list along with details of the gifts retained by them.
