5th Day of Punjab Youth Festival: 3,454 Players win

Lahore, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): The District Level of Punjab Youth Festival 2014 tested the abilities of the participants and honed their skills further for the upcoming stages of the world’s largest sporting activity. A total of 14,067 players displayed their expertise in various competitions and 3,454 won their respective matches.

Some of the events in Lahore also yielded immense interest of general public. In Karate Championship, Rana Shoaib emerged victorious in below 55kg category at Lahore’s Iqbal Park Wrestling Stadium. The second position was won by Farhan Taj. In below 65kg class, Savail Fayyaz achieved top position followed by M. Shafiq.

The title of below 75 kg went to Awais Taj while Bilal Khan remained runner up. The Taekwondo Competitions were held at gymnasium hall of Punjab University New Campus where Mohammad Zeeshan defeated Usman in 55kg category contest. The 65kg title was clinched by Atif Ali and Faisal Nazir finished second. Sufian Anayat got the top position in 75 kg class followed by Shahan Arif.

In Lahore Division’s districts Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib, 1,064 players appeared in the PYF events and 310 returned as winners. As many as 704 players of Chakwal, Attock and Jhelum districts of Rawalpindi Division featured in several events, out of which 156 were declared triumphant.

A large number of athletes featured in the PYF events in Sargodha Division. Some 3,042 players from Bhakkar, Khushab and Mianwali districts participated in different contests and 1,072 returned home successful. In Gujranwala Division, 5,887 contestants of Hafizabad, Sialkot, Mand Bahauddin, Gujrat and Narowal districts exhibited their potential in various games but 831 met with success. As many as 988 players featured in the PYF events in Faisalabad Division.

The competitions were held in Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot districts where 307 remained successful. In Okara and Pakpattan districts of Sahiwal Division, 208 athletes showed their skills in different PYF events, out of which 104 were adjudged as victorious. In Multan Division, 388 players from Vehari, Lodhran and Khanewal districts participated in PYF activities but 136 scripted victories in their respective events.

The Bahawalnagar and Rahimyar Khan districts of Bahawalpur Division saw some 672 players in action where 192 were declared triumphant. The Dera Ghazi Khan Division remained quite busy in PYF events. Where as many as 1,114 athletes demonstrated their potential in Rajjanpur, Layyah and Muzaffar garh districts in a variety of sporting event and among them, 346 returned home successful.
