Karachi, June 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): The 5th Independence Day Cup Open Golf Tournament 2013 concluded at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club here on Sunday evening with Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad Golf Club (IGC) winning the coveted trophy of the high profile DHA tournament.
The Rs 1.7.50 million prized tournament was held from 20 to 23 June’ 2013 at DHA Golf Club in which 200 spirited golfers of different ages featured in various categories including country’s top100 professionals.
An impressive prize distribution ceremony was held on Sunday evening at DHA Golf Club in which Administrator DHA, Brig Muhammad Abdullah was the chief guest. Brig Abdullah appreciated Defence Authority Country and Golf Club for promoting golfing activity in the country and for organizing a spectacular golf tournament.
Administrator said that winning and losing was part of the game adding that the essence of the game was fighting spirit, perseverance, confidence and determination which constitute the moving spirit of golfing activity in its essence.
The performance of Pakistan’s number one golfer Shabbir Iqbal (IGC) was spectacular who won the championship and prize money of Rs. 227,000/- and a 1300 car, with a score of (204). Muhammad Siddique (LYL) and Muhammad Munir trailed behind to Second position with score of (215) jointly while Muhammad Tariq (IGC) finished up of the tournament with a score of (216).
In senior professionals Ghani Khan (KGC) with score of 71 was first while Shoukat Ali (IGC) with score of 73 bagged the second position. In amateurs (H/C 12 Below) winner gross was Zohiab Asif (DHA) with 228 gross score while winner net was Mustafa Ghani (DHA) with a score of 214.
At the end Administrator DHA, Brig Muhammad Abdullah distributed prizes among the winners.
