68th Independence Day celebrated at Consulate of Pakistan Glasgow with national zeal and enthusiasm

Glasgow, August 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): The 68th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated at the Consulate of Pakistan, Glasgow with national zeal and enthusiasm. A large number of Scotland based Pakistanis from all walks of life attended the ceremony.

Scottish Minister for External Affairs and International Development Hamza Yousaf, Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party Anas Sarwar MP , and other local dignitaries, elected representatives, Councillors, religious leaders, imams and local businessmen also attended the flag hoisting ceremony and the reception hosted by the Consulate that followed.

Consul General Syed Ahsan Raza Shah hoisted the national flag. Independence Day. Messages of President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif were read out on the occasion.

The Scottish Minister for External Affairs and International Development Hamza Yousaf in his address congratulated all Pakistanis on their Independence day and wished a bright and prosperous future for Pakistan.

He paid especially rich tributes to the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party Anas Sarwar also spoke on the occasion and congratulated all Pakistanis on the auspicious occasion.

Earlier In his welcome address, Consul General Syed Ahsan Raza Shah recalled the great sacrifices rendered by our forefathers for a separate homeland. He recalled the guiding principles professed by the founding fathers and enshrined in our constitution which call for political freedom, self-governance, economic independence as necessary conditions for a vibrant society to thrive.

He lauded the role of overseas Pakistanis in strengthening the national economy through their valuable remittances and also recounted the many historic linkages between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in general; and with Scotland in particular. He announced that the Machine Readable Passport facility is expected to be operationalized in Glasgow soon.

The ceremony concluded with the Consul General alongwith the Scottish Minister for External Affairs and International Development Hamza Yousaf cutting the Independence Day cake, commemorating the occasion. The ceremony concluded with prayers for progress, prosperity and solidarity of Pakistan.
