A delegation of Defence Society Residents Association meets Administrator Defence Housing Authority

Karachi, January 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): A representative delegation of Defence Society Residents Association (DSRA) led by its President Justice (Retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui visited DHA’s Main Office and held a meeting with Administrator DHA Brig Muhammad Abdullah to discuss various issues of residents’ interest.

Brig Abdullah reiterated that such interactions between DHA and residents’ associations should aim at better co-ordination and prompt resolution of residents’ problems. He said that feedback of the residents helped the DHA in formulating realistic and residents-friendly policies.

On a demand of DSRA for suspending recovery of the refurbishment charges the delegation was informed that the matter was sub-judice and that the court has not restrained DHA from recovering the same barring use of physical force for the purpose.

The delegation was of the view that Non-Utilization Fee (NUF) imposed by DHA on vacant plots was on a higher side which should be rationalized. DHA administration pointed out that NUF charges are levied basically for the security and safety of the plots in DHA being ensured through an elaborate security setup. It also aims at encouraging the people to build their houses/properties in DHA and not to leave the plots open/unconstructed for a long time.

The delegation was informed that for carrying out distemper/paint and minor repairs of residential/commercial properties in DHA, the process has been simplified to the extent that it can be undertaken by obtaining permission without clearance of outstanding financial dues.

However, for making any addition/alteration and structural changes, clearance of outstanding financial dues followed by formal approval would continue to remain a pre-requisite.

The meeting concluded on a positive note with both residents and DHA officials expressing their resolve to continue meaningful co-operation in future.
