Administrator Karachi addresses meeting held on expansion project of PIDC Bridge

Karachi, January 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has said that Chief Minister Sindh has given approval of the project for expansion of PIDC Bridge on M.T. Khan Road after which carpeting, furnishing and expansion works of this bridge will commence soon.

He said this while addressing a meeting held on expansion project of PIDC Bridge. On this occasion Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Chief Engineer Khalid Masroor and other officers of Engineering Department were also present.

Administrator Karachi said that it is necessary to carry out expansion work of PIDC Bride due to immense traffic pressure on this location so that traffic jam problems could be resolved here and traffic flow could maintain in this connection initial work has been carried out and now other works on this project are being started after the approval of Government of Sindh.

He said that provision of funds for this project will be through Provincial ADP and this project is the part of that combined scheme under which network of roads in Karachi are being improved to maintain traffic flow.

He said that PIDC Bridge is the main source of connecting Karachi Port with Central Business Zone of the city however this bridge as being very old is getting narrow for traffic. This project aims at removing hindrances of traffic, reducing travelling distance, providing citizens with better and safe travelling facilities and overcoming traffic jam problems.

He said that various works will be carried out under this project which includes change of expansion joints, shifting of utility pipes, carpeting and construction of footpath, strengthening current plate girders, construction of carriage way on one side of the road, repairing of connecting road on both sides of the bridge, electric work and other works.

Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui directed Engineering Department to take immediate measures to complete this project on preferential basis as it holds much importance for the city and completion of this project will not only provide citizens with facilities but also will help resolve traffic jam problems in this whole area.

He said that KMC like other development projects will take all necessary measures to complete this project on preferential basis.
