Karachi, September 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): In pursuance of the Executive Committee and General Body Meeting of ECO CCI on 4th September the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) hosted the sideline sessions of the further Committees on the second day of ECO CCI activities at Karachi. Zakaria Usman, President FPCCI also graced the sessions with his presence.

During the session of the Trade Facilitation Committee of ECO CCI, Mr. Amjad Rafi, Chairman of the said Committee stated that unfortunately, even after passing long time many issues which are critically hampering trade are not resolved.

He said that due to non-implementation of ECOTA agreement the ECO region is not performing well in bilateral trade and commercial activities. He stressed on ECO CCI delegation to visit those ECO countries who have not yet ratified the ECOTA.

He also stressed to Tajikistani delegation to ratify the annexure of ECOTA immediately so that it is enforced. Amjad Rafi also urged to accede to TIR convention by Pakistani Government so that free movement of cargo within the ECO region can be facilitated. He also suggested visa sticker system like SAARC for the member of ECO CCI.

The Secretary General of ECO CCI Dr. M. R. Karbasi gave the last year’s activity report of the Committee. He also briefed the latest achievements for implementation of the agreements like ECOTA and visa facilitation between the ECO CCI member states.

In order to maximize the services of public and private financial institutions among the ECO member states the committee discussed on the feasibility of organizing Business Forum by the end of this year with the collaboration of ECO Trade Development Bank. They also discussed the points on the status of the 4th ECO Business Forum which has been rescheduled to be held in Azerbaijan in 2015.

In order to encourage the businesswomen of ECO region the Council of Women Entrepreneurs ECO CCI met today to discuss various measures to develop the women entrepreneurship and enhance their capabilities through different training programs, workshops and exhibitions.

The Committee suggested taking the benefits of the experience of the prominent businesswomen and highlighting them through different channels so that the other women can be motivated to come forward to take part in the economic development of their respective countries in various sector.

The Secretary General of ECO CCI Dr. M. R. Karbasi proposed to organize exhibition of products of women entrepreneurs of ECO states. The house appreciated the proposal and discussed the viability of the said exhibition program.

Mrs. Arjumand Qazi, member of the said committee presented overview on the role of Pakistani women entrepreneurs through a detailed presentation. Begum Salama Ahmed Ex-Vice President FPCCI appreciated the women entrepreneurs and stressed on enhancing the skills and capabilities of women entrepreneurs of ECO member states.

The Arbitration Committee of ECO CCI emphasized on holding the UNCITRAL Trade Arbitration Workshop with the objective to create awareness about the trade arbitration among the business communities of ECO member states.

The Secretary General of ECO CCI stated that arbitration is the modern tool for the settlement of trade disputes in a shortest period of time without going into the lengthy procedures of court of law. The ECO CCI is promoting this dispute settlement culture in ECO member state.

The ECO CCI also inaugurated the first session of the ECO Business Rating program (BRP). Mr. F. Shokrekhodaee, BRP Executive in the ECO region explained the importance of Business Rating Program between ECO member countries. He also explained the activities conducted in the domain of rating in the ECO member states.

Zakaria Usman, President FPCCI said that the specialized Committees of ECO CCI provides level playing field to Executive Committee and General Assembly of ECO CCI. He appreciated the participants of all specialized committees who devoted their precious time for the meetings and played important role in the success of ECO CCI.

The members of the above committees of ECO CCI appreciated the excellent arrangements to hold these meetings in a befitting manner and for the warm hospitality of Federation of Pakistan CCI to the members of ECO CCI.
