Ambassador Masood Khalid inaugurates Qinghai International Carpet Exhibition; discusses energy cooperation, communication links with Qinghai’s Governor

Islamabad, June 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Ambassador of Pakistan to China Mr. Masood Khalid visited Xining, Qinghai province to attend the 2013 Qinghai International Carpet Exhibition where Pakistan is displaying its handmade carpets potential. The exhibition which started on 20th June, was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Masood Khalid along with Hao Peng, Governor Qinghai province and Vice Minister, Chinese Ministry of Commerce, says a press release received here today from China.

Mr Massod Khalid on the occasion said that the overwhelming presence of Pakistani Carpet exhibitors at the exhibition reflected the tremendous potential Pakistani carpet manufacturing and exports possessed, adding that the Qinghai exhibition was a unique opportunity to promote the Pakistani product. In the exhibition there are 32 companies having 35 stalls and more than 60 exhibitors participating through Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

While talking to the Governor in an exclusive meeting, the Ambassador appreciated the steps taken by provincial government for development of the region. He was told by Governor that the region was full of natural resources, such as Zinc, copper, oil and gas and they have electricity potential of 200 million KW from hydel and 10 million KW from solar. The province is also focusing on biodiversity and Tourism.

The Ambassador discussed the overall energy situation of Pakistan and possibilities of cooperation with Government of Qinghai particularly in the field of solar energy. The Governor also mentioned that a rail link between Qinghai and Xinjiang is being established.

The Ambassador pointed out that Pakistan side with Chinese assistance plans to extend railway links upto Kashghar, which would provide a trade corridor to Pakistani businessmen and tourists right up to Qinghai after completion of these projects.

The delegation led by Mr. Masood Khalid also included Mr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Commercial Counsellor and Mr. Akhter Nazir Kooki from Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

The Governor of Qinghai Province was invited to the carpet exhibition to be held in Pakistan in October, 2013. The Governor also hosted a lunch for the Ambassador and Pakistani carpet exporters.
