Benazir Income Support Programme Empowering women, benefitting poor families

Karachi: World Bank Documentation Mission led by Diana Coulter visited Cash Grant beneficiaries at Village Sohrab Palari, Rahimabad Detho and also visited Benazir Distribution Card Centre at Latifabad Hyderabad.

Diana Coulter said that Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is providing immediate relief to the poor enabling them to absorb the shock of rising prices of food and fuel. Within a short span, BISP has made remarkable progress by providing much needed relief to poor families. BISP Empowering women, benefitting poor families.

The Delegation enquired from beneficiaries the impact of Cash grant in their lives.

Beneficiaries appreciated the efforts of present Government to support the poor and needy people and prayed for Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Abdul Majeed Soomro, Director Benazir Income Support Programme, Hyderabad said that BISP to distribute cash grants amongst the poor of eligible BISP families through “Benazir Cards” throughout the country in contribution with the Banks instead of post offices to avoid delays and other complaints in the present delivery mechanism. BISP was directed to adopt more efficient and technologically advanced mechanism of delivering BISP funds through the BC.

The delegation was briefed by women that Benazir Card System is faster and transparent instead of Postal Payments.
