Budget 2013-14: Finance Ministry clarifies News reports

Islamabad, June 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): Commenting on the budgetary estimates for revenue and expenditures, including power subsidy figures, for the upcoming budget 2013-14 appearing in various newspapers of 1st June 2013, a spokesman for the Finance Ministry clarified that the figures and financial analyses mentioned therein were entirely speculative and all estimates of budget were awaiting arrival of the new Government, which alone will take the definitive decisions in view of the overall macroeconomic situation of the country and its own policy priorities.

The spokesman further said that it was indeed the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance to give as realistic a picture to the Government as it could, given the available resources, and it was the prerogative of the elected Government to make the final choices and take appropriate decisions. No attempt is made to paint any rosy picture of the economy or to overlook the challenges being faced by the country.
