Sindh Industrial Trading Estate area must be identified as examplary role model with context to traffic control: Younus M. Bashir
Karachi, October 25, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman S.I.T.E. Association of Industry, Mr. Younus M. Bashir while welcoming the Additional IGP, Traffic (Sindh) Mr. Ghulam Qadir Thebo, at S.I.T.E. Association of Industry in a meeting attended by Mr. Ahsan Arshad Ayub, Senior Vice Chairman. Mr. Yousuf Yaqoob (Prince), Vice Chairman, Mr. M. Jawed Bilwani, Mr. Salim Parekh, Mr. S. Zafar Ahmed, Mr. Asad Nisar Members of Executive Committee, Mr. M. Tariq Yousuf and Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala, Former Chairmen and large number of members of the Association, briefed the Additional IGP, Traffic (Sindh) about the traffic jams and violations of rules and regulations, existing of unauthorized bus / truck and chinqui stands resulting in road side snatching, decoity, in the SITE area.
He said that we want normal flow of traffic in the area for which suitable action must be initiated to the entire satisfaction of our members. Mr. M. Arif Hanif, DIG, Traffic (Karachi), Mr. Aashique Ali Bozdar, SSP, Traffic West, Ms. Jalis Fatima, SSP, Traffic Central, Mr. Fida Hussain, SP, SITE were also present.
He stressed that every effort be made to control traffic blockade due to encroachment, wrong side violations and non observance of traffic rules which are one of the major causes of roadside looting by the criminal elements.
The representatives of Transport and Communication Department, KMC was also invited in the meeting to assists in understanding the technical aspects of closing the U turn on Nazimabad road after Afza Altaf Flyover as well as smooth flow of traffic at on main Nazimabad Road.
A Senior Executive of Executive of Meezan Bank also attended the meeting who assured assistance of his bank to finance traffic related projects.
Mr. M. Jawed Bilwani pointed out the jurisdiction matter of SITE traffic police citing the Khizar Hayat Traffic Chowki where the traffic violations are not taken care by the SITE traffic police that the area does not fall within their jurisdiction.
He also pointed out that unauthorized parking truck / bus stands at the corners of main roads creates bottleneck for smooth traffic flow, he also suggested that widening of ICI Bridge the need of the hour due to which traffic jams frequently occur causes not only immense difficulties to the peoples in loss of valuable time and fuel but it also a cause of mobile snatching and even loss of precious lives.
Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala, Former Chairman, S.I.T.E. Association in addition to what Chairman, S.I.T.E. Association of Industry in his address said that a handsome amount has already been allocated by the Government of Sindh for repairing / patch work of the dilapidated roads particularly Paracha Chowk to Babar Kanta on different locations. He volunteered his full cooperation for completion of all requirements for smooth flow of traffic in SITE area.
Additional IGP, Traffic Thanked for giving him an opportunity to share the problems of traffic in SITE area. He said that civilized nations do observe cleanliness and follow the traffic rules and regulations.
He said that with the existing strength of 3200 traffic staff we have full capacity to reduce the traffic problems. He said that protest and demonstration against energy and water, crises and other issues in any part of the city causes traffic jams in the other parts of the city. He also said that the main reason of traffic jam is road conditions.
He assured to take immediate action against unauthorized parking / stands and wrong side violations and deployment of traffic police to avoid traffic jams. He further assured that with cooperation of S.I.T.E. Association of Industry he would try his level best to make SITE area as a Model area with context to the traffic control.
He also suggested to constitute a Committee consisting of representatives of Traffic Police, Transport and communication department and S.I.T.E. Association of Industry to chalk out short term and long term plan for effective traffic control in Site area.
He informed the participants that Traffic Police Sindh has established a Telephone Helpline “1915” for lodging complaints pertaining to traffic issues for circulation to the members of the S.I.T.E. Association of Industry.
