Lahore, April 10, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) Wednesday organized a walk in connection with Tax Day to create awareness about importance of tax-payment. The LCCI Acting President Khawaja Shahzad Nasir, Vice President Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigal, chairman PRA Javed Ahmed, former President Mian Anjum Nisar, Mian Nauman Kair, Amjad Ali Jawa, Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi, Mian Zahid Javed, Bao Bashir, Arshad Khan, Haris Attique, Talha Tayyab Butt, Kamal Mahmood Amjad Mian, Khalid Pervaiz, Abdul Razzak Babbar, Waqar Ahmed Mian, and representatives of trade and industrial associations took part in the awareness walk.
LCCI Acting President Khawaja Shahzad Nasir said that Pakistan is in a dire need for tax reforms to boost tax to GDP ratio. He said that taxpayers should be given honour and those should be brought into the tax net who have taxable income. He said that tax reforms should be formed and introduced in consultation with the stakeholders. He said that most of the challenges being faced by the economy are directly linked to complicated and lengthy taxation procedures. Therefore, government would have to make taxation system business friendly through due consultation with the stakeholders as being done in the EU states.
LCCI Vice President Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigal said that tax reforms like developed countries could enhance the government revenue. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry believes that for the promotion of tax culture in Pakistan, the government would have to bring down the rate of the taxes besides bringing the untaxed sectors into the tax net.
He said that Pakistan was the rising star in 1960s and a number of countries adopted Pakistan as role model but now situation is quite different and now those countries are far ahead which were following us. Chairman Punjab Revenue Authority Javed Ahmed said that PRA is working eagerly to broaden its tax based and is providing taxpayer better facilities. He said that Punjab Revenue Authority is focusing on digitalization as it is the only solution to the issues.
