Capital Development Authority ends contact system for collection of advertisement board tax

Islamabad, August 25, 2014 (PPI-OT): Khalid Chaudhry, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Central Information Secretary, Traders Action Committee, Islamabad has said that Mr. Maroof Afzal, Chairman CDA has not renewed contract system for collection of advt. board tax through contractors and if any contractor’s representative approaches the shops for board tax collection, traders should not pay him any tax, rather they should inform their trade association about such demand.

He lauded the role of Mr. Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Administration CDA in ending the contract system for collection of advt. board tax. He said Director Municipal Administration CDA was informed that contact system was illegal and traders wanted elimination of this system forthwith. CDA had suspended contract system till July 2014 and it was encouraging that keeping in view traders demand, CDA has not included this system in the new budget.

He said about 6 months back, Mr. Hamza Shafqaat, Director DMA of CDA had held a meeting with traders representatives of the federal capital wherein it was agreed that CDA would collect advt. board tax @ Rs.60/sq yd. It was further agreed that board tax will not be collected through contractors and DMA staff will issue board license on receipt of board tax.

Khalid Chaudhry said that traders have always cooperated with CDA and they had offered to pay board tax to CDA through market unions. He warned that if CDA violated the understanding for collection of board tax, traders will not pay the said tax to any contractor. He appealed to Member Administration CDA to direct Director DMA to issue notification of agreed rate of board tax and appoint staff for issuance of license of advt. boards to traders.
