Karachi, November 28, 2016 (PPI-OT): In a joint statement Gulzar Firoz, Former Chairman, PTA (Central), Aziz Ahmed, Chairman, Abdul Salam, Vice Chairman and Amir Majeed, Chairman, Local Bodies Committee, PTA (Southern Zone) have expressed their satisfaction over the carpeting of Road 5000, leading from Shan Chowk to Tannery Zone has started. They said that after the recent visit of Commissioner Karachi, Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Khan the industrialists of the area are keen to see the implementation of his orders for lifting of solid waste, garbage from the tannery zone and cleaning of nallahs etc.

They hoped that lifting of solid waste to also start soon. The PTA representatives have further said that many foreigners visit Sector 7-A (Tannery Zone) where there are more than 150 tanneries employing more than 15,000 workers. This area produces more than 50% of the total exports of leather and leather goods from Pakistan, hence, the importance of Road 5000 carpeting was absolutely necessary. They hoped that the area cleaning operation also be commenced soon.

PTA Chief Aziz Ahmed said that leather exports are worst hit due to the lack of infrastructural facilities and the utilities. He informed the CM that despite the laying of Rs84 million pipeline for water supply to Tannery Zone, the KWSB is yet to release the water into the mains. He appealed the CM to order KWSB to release water into the pipeline without further delay.
