Islamabad: Chairman Senate, Mr. Farooq H. Naek in a meeting with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov, has said that mutual support and solidarity has been the hallmark of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan and this relationship will be further strengthened with the visit of the President of Turkmenistan. The meeting took place at a local Hotel in Islamabad. Matters of mutual interest and bilateral significance came under discussion.
Chairman Senate observed that both the countries have important strategic locations and there was a need to explore new avenues of cooperation in economic, trade and energy sectors. Chairman Senate pointed out that Turkmenistan can help meet Pakistan’s energy requirements saying that Pakistan supports initiatives to establish trans-regional energy corridor.
” We attach high priority to early implementation and completion of Turkmenistan- Afghanistan- Pakistan- India (TAPI) pipeline project”, the Mr. Farooq H. Naek added. He said both President Asif Ali Zardari and President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov were taking keen interest for early implementation and completion of the project and the credit goes to the present leadership of both the countries who have taken some concrete steps in this regard.
Mr. Naek also underscored the need for people-to-people contacts and inter-parliamentary linkages adding that the frequency of high level visits and contacts needs to be enhanced further to learn from each other’s experiences.
He said Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Turkmenistan.Both the countries share common religion, culture and history, the Chairman Senate said. The Chairman Senate also extended invitation to the Speaker of Majlis of Turkmenistan to visit Pakistan with a high level delegation.
Mr. Farooq H. Naek said that women were taking active part in politics and other fields. He said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto gave her life for the downtrodden community.
President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov, said that bilateral ties between Pakistan and Turkmenistan would be further strengthened with the passage of time. He said bilateral cooperation in important areas will bring the two countries closer to each other.
He said fruitful talks were held during the visit. Six documents were signed to give boost to bilateral cooperation in different fields. Mr. Gurbanguly termed his visit successful. He also extended invitation to the Chairman Senate to visit Turkmenistan.
