Check-posts to counter arms smuggling: Governor

Karachi: The Government is fully committed to control and improve the law and order situation in the province. This was stated by Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, here on Friday. He was talking to group of visitors from the Command and Staff College Quetta at the Governor House here.

Dr Ebad said that the government of Sindh was working in a determined manner for controlling and improving the law and order in the province.

He said that several alleged criminals have been arrested and the remaining would be nabbed also. The Governor said that it is the resolve of the coalition partners that no one would be allowed to mar the law and order. He pointed out that people from various areas come to Karachi to earn their livelihood and as such more employment opportunities will be available by improving the law and order.

Dr. Ebad said that Karachi is the biggest city of the country and is an economic hub. This city was expanding without any master plan. He stated that a master plan was devised in 2003 and implementation began in 2005.

The Governor said that one of the main problems of the metropolis was that of encroachments and that there are certain vested interests that give it various colours in order to try and stop the drive against encroachments.

He stated that the coalition partners are unanimous that indiscriminate action be taken against those involved in gun-running and criminal activities. He said that check posts would be set up to check the inflow of illegal weapons in to the city.

He pointed out that the federal and the provincial government are according priority to the Thar coal project and its implementation would help considerably resolve the energy problem.

The Governor said that with bridges, under-passes and widening of roads the traffic problems in the metropolis have been resolved to some extent. He stated that the completion of mega projects have added to the beauty of the city. Later, prayers were offered for the safe recovery of those trapped under avalanche in Siachen.
