Clinton announce launch of US-Pakistan Women Council

Islamabad, September 27, 2012 (PPI-OT): Commenting on the news “Clinton announces launch of US-Pakistan Women Council” reported in ‘the News’ of Wednesday, 26th September, 2012, Begum Salma Ahmed Shah, Vice President FPCCI and Vice Chairperson SCWEC (SAARC), said that this was a positive development, and it would go a long way in establishing the fact that Pakistan Women have always taken the lead in the field of Women Entrepreneurship.

Begum Salma Ahmed Shah cited the example of Women Entrepreneurs including herself, for their trial-blazing efforts as early as the 1970’s in setting up industries and mentioned women such as Ms. Zeenat Saeed, Ms. Nushra Ajmal and Ms. Rehana Saigol.

Begum Salma Ahmed, said it was the lack of dissemination of information that in the United States and other major world players that this fact has not been recognized.

She further added that the pioneering women of Pakistan set up a registered body named “Pakistan Association of Women Entrepreneurs” as early as 1980, who were engaged in organizing exhibitions of Pakistani Products and Showcasing Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Philippines, South Africa and especially in India, where they took part in the India International Trade Fairs, since 1990s.

Therefore, it is a fillip to women business community of Pakistan that the US-Pakistan Women Council has been launched after a struggle of about 40 years.
