Collection of data by army in IHK concerns Gilani’s forum

Srinagar, January 15, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the forum led by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani expressing concern over the collection of information about the residents of Bandipora, Baramulla and Badgam districts by the Indian army said that there was virtually an army rule in the territory.

The forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the civil administration was expressing its ignorance about the collection of data by the army, which had made the matter mysterious.

The Indian Army is carrying out a kind of census in many parts of Kashmir, with troops moving from door-to-door to collect details about households. The information includes names of people in a particular household, their professions, age and other details, they said.

The forum said that the troops were intimidating people of serious consequences if they hided anything from them. It suspected that the campaign might be part of a new Indian game plan against the people of Kashmir, as the troops had been involved in massive human rights violations against the innocent people of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the forum denounced the arrest of the Kashmiris including a youth Umar Farooq and Ghulam Muhammad Sufi at Barzula in Srinagar by Indian police. The forum said that the arrests were being made to intimidate the youth and ordinary Kashmiris into submission.
