Concern raised over mushrooming growth of NGOs in IOK

Srinagar, October 25, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the illegally detained Hurriyet leader and the Chairman of Muslim Deeni Mahaz, Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo has expressed concern over the mushrooming growth of religious and social non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the territory. Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo in a statement issued in Srinagar said that two years ago the Indian government had said that it had funded various religious organizations in the occupied valley to the tune of Rs 80 crore. “It was not even ascertained who received these funds and what was the purpose of this funding,” he added.

Dr Qasim Fakhtoo said that India wanted to counter the social and political influence of the sincere Kashmiri leadership through the mushrooming growth of NGOs so that it could force its writ in religious and political circles.

He requested all popularly accepted and trustworthy religious and Hurriyet leadership to look into the organisations and the people running them so that the masses are made aware. He also urged people to beware of the organisations and only stand with known and trustworthy religious and Hurriyet leadership.
