Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh calls on Administrator Karachi

Karachi, April 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has welcomed the proposal for broadening contacts with Dhaka Municipal Administration and pledged to take all positive steps to deepen the relationship between Karachi and Dhaka.

He expressed these views while talking to Mr. Ruhul Alam Siddique, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Karachi who along with the Social Secretary Fahima and Commercial Officer Mushtaq Ahmed called on him in his office on Thursday. The Administrator was assisted by the Senior Director Municipal Services Masood Alam.

Administrator Karachi during the meeting briefed him about the municipal state of affairs in Karachi. He also welcomed the proposal offered by the Deputy High Commissioner for broadening contacts with Dhaka Municipal Administration.

He also apprised him of the proposed plan to develop a BRT service for Karachi. He also mentioned that plans for re-induction of fully revamped Karachi Circular Railways are on the anvil. The Deputy High Commissioner informed that there exists a very healthy trade relationship between both the countries, the volume of which is US$1billion annually.

He said that the prominent trading houses of Karachi play an important role in fostering trade transactions particularly in the field of industrial raw materials mostly produced in Karachi. The Administrator assured him of the continued support of civic agencies of Karachi in providing infrastructure facilities to industries engaged in trade with Bangladesh. Both sides agreed in principal to increase their mutual contact in respect of education and research. They also undertook cooperation in municipal field particularly in waste management.

The Bangladeshi High Commissioner said that mutual cooperation between Karachi and Dhaka will surely benefit if the possibility of twinning both the cities is explored. He said that Karachi and Dhaka have a lot to learn and a lot to share. The Administrator reciprocated the sentiment and assured for taking all positive steps to deepen the relationship between both the cities.

The Administrator Karachi presented the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh with the traditional Sindhi cap and ajrak and the Deputy High Commissioner presented him some publications regarding Bangladesh.
