Earthquake Reconstruction, Rehabilitation Authority to take stern action against lethargic contractors for slow progress

Muzaffarabad, January 25, 2016 (PPI-OT): Following the government directives to complete the projects speedily, Earthquake Reconstruction, Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), has started projects reappraisal to take stern actions against those contractors who are indulging in slow progress of the projects.

ERRA high official meeting with contractors and NESPAK noted that most of the projects were in line with set targets however in certain projects progress was found to be slow in terms of the contract. The meeting decided to take stern action against such defaulter contractors.

In the meeting Director General Planning Engineer Tahir Pervaiz, Projector Directors ERRA, NESPAK officials and contractors representatives also presented their views to expedite the pace of work. Eight contractors performance was assessed which was found to be worse and meeting decided to terminate their contracts as they had failed to come up with projected timelines despite repeated warning notices.

The meeting firmly warned inefficient contractors to mend their attitude of slow progress. It was noted that those contractors who are lethargic and displaying snail pace working would not be tolerated as they were causing enormous loss to the national exchequer.

In the meeting it was also decided that the reappraisal of the projects would be carried out on regular basis. The Acting Deputy Chairman ERRA Brig Abu Bakr Amin Bajwa has specially assigned the task to Director General Monitoring and Evaluation Wing ERRA in this regard.

The meeting expressed satisfaction that ERRA has completed 9974 projects out of more than 14000 projects of infrastructure, health, education, sanitation etc worth billions of rupees in AJK and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In the said meeting ERRA progress of different sectors projects was appreciated in Education, health, infrastructure. The meeting stressed the need to ensure quality work and remove impediments which caused delay in the con going.

The meeting welcomed United Nation Body remarks for appreciating ERRA reconstruction performance after 8th October massive earthquake and their splendid role in relief, rehabilitation and quality reconstruction. He said that UN body’s appreciation is a pride for Pakistan and its institution which immensely contributed in reconstruction of 600,000 homes, roads, hospitals, and other structures which so far resisted over 480 earthquake jolts.
