Embassy of Pakistan in Washington organises certificate awarding ceremony to mark conclusion of course on Understanding Pakistan

Washington, June 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Embassy of Pakistan in Washington D.C. organized a certificate awarding ceremony yesterday to mark the conclusion of the course on “Understanding Pakistan.” Former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Mr. Riaz Muhammad Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The course was designed to provide interested young Americans and Pakistani-Americans a basic understanding and knowledge of Pakistan’s society and culture, economy, trade and foreign policy including a full round up of Pakistan-U.S. relations.

During the ceremony, Mr. Cameron Thomas-Shah and Ms. Ambereen Husain spoke on behalf of the participants. They expressed deep appreciation for the Embassy’s initiative and termed the course very timely and highly informative.

They said that the course had made a huge positive impact on participants’ perception about Pakistan and expressed the hope that the Embassy will continue to conduct such courses in future.

In his remarks, the Charge d’ Affaires Dr. Asad Majeed Khan congratulated the participants on being the pioneer group as this was the first ever course conducted by the Embassy. He said that the purpose of the course was to generate interest about Pakistan and expressed the hope that through this course the embassy was able to win over a new generation of friends of Pakistan.

The Charge d’ Affaires also underscored the need for tackling misconceptions and debunking myths about Pakistan and encouraged the participants to explore more avenues to learn about the real Pakistan. He reiterated the Embassy’s commitment to conduct the course on quarterly basis.

Former Foreign Secretary Riaz Muhammad Khan lauded the Embassy for launching the initiative. Congratulating the participants, Ambassador Riaz Muhammad Khan expressed the hope that the information and knowledge gathered during the course would enable them to play an important part in not only dispelling misconceptions in the U.S. about Pakistan but also in bringing the two countries closer together. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Ambassador Riaz Muhammad Khan distributed certificates among the participants.

The course was conducted by the Embassy officers from 12-26 June 2013. Ambassador Tauqir Hussain also gave a lecture on Pakistan-U.S. relations. The course participants represented a wide cross section of the American private and public sectors including university and college students, US government officials, businessmen and entrepreneurs.
