Tunisian Minister of Religious Affairs Ahmed Adhoum said that the implementation of the Makkah Road Initiative in Tunisia during the Hajj season this year is proof of the depth of cooperation between his country and Saudi Arabia.
Speaking to the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) on the sidelines of the annual Hajj Grand Symposium in Makkah on Monday, Adhoum said the initiative was implemented under the directive and keenness of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He added that the late Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi, and Prime Minister Youssef Al-Shahed insisted on its implementation as of this year.
The Saudi government launched the Makkah Road Initiative to finalize pilgrims' entry procedures in the countries of their departure, in a move aimed at streamlining Hajj process for pilgrims.
Adhoum noted that the initiative was a great success for the Tunisian pilgrims, who flew from the Tunis Carthage International Airport directly to their accommodation centers in Makkah. He stated that the initiative evidently shows the kind care the pilgrims enjoy upon their arrival in the holy places.
The Tunisian minister commended the quality services provided by the government of Saudi Arabia to pilgrims at all levels, including health, security, transport and housing. He indicated that this is the third time that he has headed the Tunisian Hajj delegation to the holy places, adding that every year notable progress is being made compared to the previous year
