Executive Board Meeting of National Accountability Bureau

Islamabad, April 30, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Executive Board Meeting of National Accountability Bureau chaired by Honorable Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman National Accountability Bureau which was held at NAB Headquarters. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman NAB, Prosecutor General Accountability, Director General Operations and other senior officers of NAB.

The year long set policy of NAB is to share the details of the decisions of EBM with the people which does not aim at hurting anyone. The inquiries and investigations are initiated on basis of alleged allegations which are not final. NAB decides to proceed further after knowing the point of view of the accused persons.

The EBM accorded approval to conduct 11 inquiries against the accused including Saeed Ahmed, former President National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), officers and others of the NBP, NEPRA, Ministry of Water and Power, officers and officials of PPIB. Sponsors of Port Qasim Coal Power Projects and others, Hyder Ashraf, DIG Police, Amin Vanis, CCPO, Lahore, Umer Virk, SSP and others, Kamran Akhtar, Former Town Nazim.MPA, Baldia Town, Karachi, the officers/officials of Provincial Health Department, Sindh, Officers/ officials of University of Swabi and others, officers/officials of Public Sector companies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and others, Civil Aviation Authority, Bacha Khan, International, Peshawar and others, and officers and officials of PHATA, Saeed Ahmed Jagrani, former director NARA, Cenal,Seed, Mirpur Khas and officers and officials of Nusrat Division, Irrigation.

The EBM also approved filing of corruption reference , details are as under. The EBM approved filing of corruption reference against Muhammad Abdul Rauf Siddique, former Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce, Government of Sindh and others on the accusations of 372 illegal appointments and misappropriation of government funds, causing approximately Rs 420 million losses to national exchequer.

The EBM accorded approval to close inquiry against officers/officials of Allama Iqbal Open University and others, Fund for Rehabilitation of Special Persons Limited, Lahore and others., Abdul Qadeer Bhatta, former AIG and others, Aamir Zulfikar, DIG and others, Wasif Mehmood, former Principal Executive Officer,Pakistan Steel Mills and others, officers of Dadu Division, District Shaheed Benazirabad, Dr Mubarak Ali, Principal Shaikh Zaid, College, Rahim Yar Khan and others due to absence of evidence.

The EBM also okayed closing investigations against officers and officials of Capita Development Authority (CDA), and others as per law. NAB would now onwards concentrate of pursuing mega corruption cases with renewed vigour. Keeping in view this the EBM decided to refer inquiry being conducted against the officials and officers Central Power Purchasing Agency, Limited and others to relevant department for appropriate action as per law.

The EBM of NAB has also approved sending inquiry against Ayub Medical and Teaching Institution, Abbottabad and others, to Higher Education Department Islamabad for further necessary action as per law. NAB believes in taking the cases of proclaimed offenders, corrupt elements to logical conclusion and maximum efforts were being taken in this regard.

Meanwhile Justice Javed Iqbal Chairman NAB said corruption was the root cause of all ills. NAB vigorously pursuing the policy of ‘’Accountability for All’. NAB believes in punishing the corrupt elements, proclaimed offenders as per law.
