Final result of Al Baraka championship 2014

Karachi, February 09, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pakistan star golfer Shabbir Iqbal underlined his status as Pakistan’s best professional by grabbing the Al Baraka All Pakistan Open Golf Championship at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club on Sunday.

The prestigious 3 days Golf Tournament was played in pleasant and challenging playing conditions at the newly refurbished golf course of DHA Golf Club. 87 top professionals and a number of senior professionals and amateurs from all over the country participated in the tournament. The 1.8 million prized tournament of Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) was sponsored by Al-Baraka Bank.

The prize distribution ceremony was held at the conclusion of the tournament in which DG Rangers; Maj Gen Rizwan Akhtar distributed prizes to the winners and awarded cash prizes to the top 40 professionals from a prize basket.

Maj Gen Rizwan Akhtar said that golfing was healthy and lively activity and should be promoted in the country. He congratulated PGF for organizing the premier event of the country in a professional and befitting manner. He hoped that more such tournaments of national stature would be held in DHA Golf Club in future. He described the event as promising and an embodiment of hope in the prevailing troubled times.

Muhammad Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad Golf Club clinched the professional title by finishing with an aggregate score of 211, Muhammad Munir of Islamabad Golf Club was runners up with a score of 212. Imran Ali Khan of DHA Golf Club bagged the third position with score of 213.

In the amateur category, Zohaib Asif (aggregate score 224) of DHA Golf Club emerged as the best amateur, beating the seasoned Wasim Rana (229) of the DHA Golf Club by a stroke followed by Sajid Khan of Karachi Golf Club 233,

In the senior professionals Saleem Inayat of Karachi Golf Club captured the top position with the total aggregate of 73 while Mehmood Kiyani of Islamabad Golf Club ended up as the runner up with the aggregate score of 75. Hassan Akbar of Karachi Golf Club came third with a score of 76.

Shabbir Iqbal collected a glittering trophy and a cash award of Rs. 218,000. A large number of golf lovers and participants golfers of the tournament attended the ceremony. Brig Muhammad Abdullah, Administrator DHA was also present on the occasion.
