In order to evaluate the quality of export shipments of fruits, vegetables, and other perishable food items, the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have decided to install a state-of-the-art high-capacity scanner at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
The development is in line with the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association’s (PFVA) Horticulture Vision 2030 which calls for automated and expeditious evaluation of the quality of export shipments at airports in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Multan.
A special shed to store and protect all export shipments from ill-effects of the weather will also be constructed at Jinnah International Airport along with the installation of the scanner.
Following the installation of the scanner, barriers in ensuring smooth export operation of perishable cargo will be removed, resulting in a significant increase in the export of fruits, vegetables, and other perishable food products.
In this regard, a delegation consisting of Executive Director General MoC, Syed Rafay Bashir Shah, officials of Trade Development Authority (TDA), and PFVA recently visited the cargo terminal of Jinnah Airport as well.
During the visit, the delegation also called upon the Director-General CAA to hold discussions regarding the installation of state-of-the-art high-capacity scanners at all major airports across the country under the PFVA Horticulture Vision 2030.
