Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Council of Complaints Peshawar refuses to renew licenses of Cable TV Operators
Islamabad, February 25, 2016 (PPI-OT):The Council of Complaints KP in its 62nd meeting held at PEMRA Regional Office Peshawar under the chair of Mr. Shakil Chandar recommended PEMRA not to renew the cable TV licenses of M/s Dera Cable Network, D.I. Khan and M/s Blue bird Cable Network, D.I. Khan for not furnishing requisite documents for renewal despite having given repeated opportunities. However, the Council acceded to the requests of M/s Gandhara Cable Network, Mardan and M/s Urooj International Cable Network for providing one more opportunity to furnish requisite documents for the provision of license.
On the complaint lodged by Muhammad Alamzeb Khan (Advocate and President of Lawyers forum PMLN, KP, Peshawar) against TV Channel-24 for levelling serious charges of corruption against Ex-Governor KP, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan; the Council recommended to summon anchor, CEO of the channel and the complainant in the next Council meeting.
In the matter of complaint by Amber Rasheed Durrani (Advocate District Court Abbottabad) against National Geographic Channel and Kashish TV for violating PEMRA laws; the Council recommended to summon CEO or representative of channels in the next COC meeting. The Council also recommended to serve notice to Kashish TV on the complaint of indecency.
In the matter of complaint against Alif Khan Sherpao (Reporter Khyber News, Charsadda) for airing misleading report in news bulletin of Khyber News on 10-10-2014, the Council while reviewing its earlier decision of imposition of Rs. 500,000/- fine, deferred the matter till next COC meeting. Other Council Members including Mr. Abdus Sattar Khan, Syed Hammad Hussain Shah, Mrs. Farah Khan, Mrs. Farah Sultan Ashraf, Mr. Muhammad Irshad and Mr. Tariq Mahmood (RGM / Secretary COC) were also present in the meeting.
