Karachi, October 05, 2016 (PPI-OT): As part of its continued commitment to nurture and promote young talent, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) extended support to Bahria University, Karachi Campus (BUKC) and Institute for Business Administration (IBA). MD and CEO PPL Syed Wamiq Bokhari handed over the last tranche of Rs. 7.58 million of the total committed Rs. 37.5 million for the PPL Geophysics Chair at BUKC to Head Earth and Environmental Sciences Department and PPL Chair Dr. Mubarik Ali. Bokhari also gave a cheque of Rs. 2 million for IBA’s National Talent Hunt Programme (NTHP) to Senior Executive IBA NTHP Syed Rizwan Ali Bukhari on October 4 at PPL’s head office in the presence of officials from the respective organizations.
“As a leading public sector oil and gas company, PPL is heavily invested in strengthening linkages with academic institutions to groom a competent human resource pool conversant with latest technology and know-how to serve the local oil and gas industry,” stated Bokhari while speaking on the occasion. PPL has been declared the largest corporate giver in terms of volume of donations for 11 consecutive years by Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy.
The PPL Geophysics Chair at Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, BUKC became operational in 2012 to promote research and development initiatives complementing the undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. To date, PPL has donated Rs. 52.5 million, including Rs. 15 million as special grant, for the chair, to establish a state-of-the-art digital geophysics data lab.
Further, a PPL Chair in petroleum engineering has recently been established at NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi while two more are in the pipeline for geophysics at Sindh University, Jamshoro and petroleum engineering at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro. Under the IBA’s NTHP, the company has sponsored six students, two from Balochistan and four from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, commencing from 2012 with an overall budget of Rs. 12 million. So far, two PPL scholars have graduated.
