Kuala Lumpur, February 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur held an academic activity to discuss the Kashmir Dispute and its implications as an expression of solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in line with the Government of Pakistan’s moral, political and diplomatic support to their legitimate struggle for self-determination as enshrined in the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions on Kashmir dispute.
The event was attended by over 200 participants that included members of diplomatic community notably ambassadors, scholars from friendly countries, delegations from Malaysian humanitarian NGOs, prominent public and private think-tanks, journalists, and members of Pakistani community. The Member Parliament of KP, Mr. Fazli Ghafoor, who was on an official visit to Malaysia, also attended the event.
The Speakers included a Kashmir youth leader and women’s representative from Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK), Ms. Shaista, who apprised the participants about the grave human rights situation in Kashmir. She stated that Indian occupation forces were committing genocide and crimes against humanity as well as strangulating the Kashmiris economically, socially and disallowing religious and communication freedoms to crush Kashmiris’ will for their struggle for exercising their right to self-determination. Highlighting the plight of Kashmiri women, Ms. Shaista recounted the incident of Kunan and Poshpura mass dishonoring of Kashmiri women by Indian soldiers, the phenomenon of ‘Half Widows’ and everyday incidents of barbarity.
She informed the audience that in the latest drive of state sponsored terrorism, Indian forces had killed over 100, blinded more than 500 and injured thousands with complete impunity since July 2016. She questioned the apathy and silence of international community viz-a-viz the sufferings of Kashmiri Muslims at the hand of Indian state. She called for support of global community for resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and for immediate cessation of bloodshed of innocent Kashmiris.
Dr. Hassan, a PhD Scholar, highlighted the systematic denial of freedom of expression and closure of social media to Kashmiris to stifle news from Kashmir. He lashed out at the double standards of social media, controlled by the Western countries with Indian presence, who blocked all the accounts that were reflecting on the Indian atrocities in IOK. Hurriyat leadership’s video conveying the situation on ground in IOK and their appreciation of government and people of Pakistan’s support was also shown.
High Commissioner of Pakistan, Nafees Zakaria, shared the messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, expressing solidarity with Kashmiris and calling for resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolutions. The leadership also highlighted the grave human rights situation and reminded the International Community and the UN of their moral obligation.
