Supreme Courthears constitution petitions regarding right of vote to Overseas Pakistanis in General Elections

Islamabad, April 06, 2018 (PPI-OT): A three member bench, headed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Chief Justice of Pakistan, and comprising other two Hon’ble Judges, Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Mr. Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan heard the constitution petitions No. 74 to 79 of 2015, 49 to 56 of 2016, 13 of 2017 and 2 of 2018 (Under Article 184(3) of the Constitution) regarding right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis. The case was heard on 03.04.2018 at Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad and the Hon’ble Bench passed the following order:

“Pursuant to our order dated 7.3.2018, NADRA has given a presentation to this Court yesterday in our Chambers at 4 o’clock. We find it expedient that such presentation be shared with representatives of the people of Pakistan; therefore, we direct that the said presentation be given on 12.4.2018 at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium of this Court in the presence of the following persons:-

(a) Two representatives of all the eighteen political parties represented in the Parliament and the Provincial Assemblies;

(b) Six members each from the National Assembly and the Senate, to be nominated by the Speaker/Chairman Senate, equally from treasury and the opposition benches;

(c) Secretaries of the Cabinet Division, Ministry of Information Technology, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs;

(d) Chief Election Commissioner as also the Members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP);

(e) For third party evaluation, IT experts from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Institute of Business Administration Karachi (IBA) and all Provincial Information Technology Boards as also any other expert or officer as the ECP may deem appropriate;

(f) Personnel of Print and Electronic Media; and

(g) Mr. Bilal Hassan Minto, ASC.”
