Srinagar, August 01, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has asked the activists of the forum to gear up for a widespread agitation ahead of the hearing by Indian Supreme Court on Article 35-A on August 6. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar said, no court or parliament, be it Indian or Pakistani, has the jurisdiction to change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Neither Indian nor Pakistani courts or parliaments have the authority to fiddle with the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir,” he told media after chairing the executive body meeting of his forum in Srinagar.
The Mirwaiz said, “We want to make it clear that it is the statement of every resident of Jammu and Kashmir that if Article 35-A is tinkered with, or any attempts are made to scrap it, the resistance leadership will launch a massive agitation and will ask the people to hit the streets.” He said that challenging the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir using courts would not be acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“No court has jurisdiction to take decisions that can in any way affect the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir, as we are yet to determine our destiny,” the Mirwaiz said. He said if the Supreme Court of India comes up with any judgment that hurts the political nature of the Kashmir dispute, the resistance leadership and the people will immediately launch an agitation.
The forum chairman said that Kashmir would remain an internationally recognized dispute till it was resolved as per the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. All such ploys would be strongly resisted both by the leadership and people of Jammu and Kashmir and there was no way that tinkering with Article 35-A would be taken lying low or tolerated, he added.
Appealing to India and Pakistan to let peace prevail, the Mirwaiz said that both the nations should come together and resolve the Kashmir dispute according to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “I welcomed the recent statement of Imran Khan, wherein he called for a dialogue on Kashmir,” he said. He urged the government of India to positively respond to Imran Khan’s initiative and start a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan and the people of Kashmir.
