Karachi, August 09, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has invited the attention of Syed Murad Ali Shah Chief Minister (CM) of Sindh in waiting to the requirement of high priority for agriculture, livestock, dairy, poultry and related value addition and urged him to ensure improvements in quantity and quality in every aspect.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said it is very important that an enabling environment is created and private sector led growth is promoted in agriculture, dairy, livestock and fisheries value chains. For this the private sector is provided with the incentives and is facilitated to meet the challenges.
Thaver regretted that the province of Sindh despite having all the resources has been lethargic in framing agricultural policy for promotion of investment in modernizing farming and related value chains. Nevertheless he suggested the reopening of the CM investors advisory cell (CMIAC) at CM house to promote investment in agriculture, agro based industries, modernization of farms, dairy, livestock and value addition of produce items. Chain stores of fruits, vegetables, flowers, rice, wheat, maize, pulses, flour and honey could be opened to promote agricultural produce items.
Thaver invited the attention of Syed Murad Ali Shah to the upcoming USAID project entitled Sindh Enabling Environment Activity (SEEA) and said UNISAME has been asked to provide information about policy, business and logistic issues facing the sector. He said SEEA is expected to help in improving the enabling environment to promote private sector led growth by identifying and addressing policy constraints that impede efficient operations. He said the proposed CMIC could help the province benefit from SEEA and the involvement of the private sector. He hoped the CM in waiting will act in good time and take this good advise.
