Srinagar, March 16, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, scores of students from Islamia College, Srinagar, today, took out a protest rally against the summoning of Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq by the Indian National Investigation Agency to New Delhi and the crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami and other religious leaders and activists.
The protesting students said that Muslims of Kashmir, irrespective of their political ideologies, had a deep emotional and religious association with the pulpit of Jamia Masjid and religious head, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
The students raised pro-freedom slogans and urged the international community to play it role in seeking a peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute. They also condemned the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and termed it as direct interference in the religious affairs of the people. “Masjids and other religious institutions of Muslims are being locked. We strongly condemn all these acts aimed at curtailing our religious freedom,” they said.
Meanwhile, students of the SSM College of Engineering held a protest against the terror attack at New Zealand mosques and held prayers in absentia for the people who were killed. The protesting students called out against the ‘war on terror’ of America, held posters in solidarity with the victims of the terror attack.
Students also denounced the comments of an Australian senator Fraser Anning from Queensland, who said that the massacre in New Zealand mosques in which 49 people lost their lives, happened because of ‘increasing Muslim presence in both Australia and New Zealand’. Hurriyat leaders, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement and the Jammu and Kashmir Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi in their statements have strongly condemned the attacks on Muslims in New Zealand mosques.
